i have a 63 ford country sedan with a 289. when i accelerate from a dead stop, it goes about ten feet the bogs down and goes back to normal. recently it started doing this while in motion too. ill be driving down the road and ill let off the gas pedal and when i apply pedal again it bogs down and then accelerates fine. anyone know what this is?
Seems like someone posted something on here about a similar problem and the correction was replacing an old portion of the rubber fuel line. It was being collapsed by suction at higher rpms. I am sorry I do not know which post it was, but it made sense. Rodney
i replaced the old two barrel carb with an edelbrock endrashine 600cfm 4 barrel... i think i go ahead and replace the fuel pump with the matching edelbrock fuel pump and see where that takes me.
---------Yes, that and check those rubber fuel lines. Also go ahead and replace the fuel pump. All this narrows the problem down. If the carb and carb gaskets are okay, one of those lines is most likely leaking or closing under load.
replaced the pump today and still having the problem...my carb sat in a closet for six months. would that do and thing to it?
I'd check the float level. The float could even be stuck. Sounds like the bowl is draining then filling.
Have you tried changing the accelerator pump linkage position? I believe there are three different positions you can adjust the linkage to to get more or less of an initial shot. Might be worth a shot if the carb is otherwise in good shape.
