As i swapped the electrical system on the Estate, i lost some of the functions, as the tailgate dash operation function. I have, using common sense got the window operating from the dash, but the tailgate is a little more complicated as it seems.. I have a manual for the 1975 Buicks, but there is no electrical diagrams covering the wagon specifics, as the neutral switch/tailgate operation relay that seems to be depending on each other.. I have operated the tailgates from the fender swich til now, but it really needs to be replaced cause it just wont stand the current any more.. My questions here are; Where can i find a wiring diagram for the tailgate, and has anyone found where to get a new rear switch?
I would really appreciate some help here, cause i dont wanna stand in the upcoming blizzards, fibbling with the switches that wont work properly this winter too..:tiphat:

    A few comments:

    1. You say you have a manual, but which one? GM put out a "Fisher Body Manual" for 1975 that covered all models, not just Buick. It's in this manual that wiring diagrams exist for the tailgate and rear window circuits. These are not in the chassis service manual.

    2. I, too, was having trouble getting the dash tailgate switch to work on my '73 Custom Cruiser. The tailgate would go up and down just fine when operated from the key switch at the rear, and the window would work fine from either the rear key switch or the dash switch. With the help of the wiring diagram, I found out that that the power for the tailgate motor, when controlled from the dash switch, goes through a relay, and if this relay is bad or not properly grounded, the dash switch won't work. In my case, it was not properly grounded.

    3. You won't find anyone making new replacement key switches for the rear. You'll have to either find one from another car or repair the one you have. What, exactly, is wrong with yours? They're not complicated devices, and I'm thinking that, depending on exactly what's wrong with it, it might be possible to repair yours.

Here's a diagram from the 1973 GM Fisher body manual showing the connection and installation of the rear key switch.

To remove the switch, you have to reach behind it from inside the car and pull off clip #4. Pull the wiring connector off of part #2 first. With the clip removed, the switch removes from the rear.

Thats just great news! I have a Buick chassie manual, that dont cover stw at all... Will have a look at Ebay tonite for a fisher one.. As for my car, the neutral switch for the relay under the dash was missing, had no connectors on the -90s steering column for that function, so i connected it to the same ignition fed terminal as the window motor.. Works like a charm now! Actually found a new relay on the swedish e bay that works perfectly!

The rear switch is burned.. The connector leafs is all black, and is missing material. I tried to solder on more material to get better connection, but it was just a temporarily fix, now after just a couple of months its back to where it was before.. SSo i really should get me a new one if possible..
