I think I know the home you're talking about out on Eastern Point. Is it the one on the harbor (harba') side?

But I have to admit you've got me a bit confused: Your step mother has evolved into your brother? And then your sister? I guess Darwin did have it right: survival of the fittest.

I did not get a chance to see the car in Littleton, NH. We took that drive I was talking about to the top of Mount Washington. The seller sent along some pictures I'll try to post here.

Well, I was wrong about the seller sending along a few pictures. Looked like a big file but when I opened it all I found was a note saying she was very busy - pictues might come later- but I'm sure I'll be passing on it - actually I have already. It'd be an 8 hour round trip just to see it. I have my suspicions. The pics on CL show it as a 30 footer. I know if I was selling it there'd be better pics than what was listed. Oh well -

As Rick would say to Ilsa: We had Mt. Washington, we lost it, but got it back. We'll always have Mt. Washington.

For the life of me I can't figure why Rick chose to talk about Paris instead.

Welcome 64Fab4. I'm in Manchester, NH - I spent a lot of time in Gloucester as a kid when my Dad lived there. I was curious about that 82 Mercury as well- but being in the midst of a prolonged purchase of an 87 Caprice I didn't check into it. Hope it works out for you.

    87 Caprice?

Is that an 87' Caprice WAGON? I had an 88 - by far the best wagon I've owned. The Merc in Littleton is all your's. Simply too far for me .

64, my step mom inherited it from her dad, but she passed away a few years back, leaving the house to my step brother and sister. I think she told me her dad purchased it back in the early 50's.

    MT Washington / Merc

Mt Washington was fantastic. Similar to driving the 'truckers' route on the commercial. Right on the edge.

She was very surprised - I guess after 35 years I've still got a little left in the engine. AND, we stayed overnight.

Yes, it is- a plain jane replacement for my rusty '87 Caprice Estate.
I really need to get on the ball and post pics of mine.
If my deal falls through, I'll check it out, but thanks for letting me know. I spied this one that is a bit closer to you, an '83 Olds Custom Cruiser in Norwood:

    Hey there BB:

I'm trying to get some info on the Olds wagon. Without pictures I've learned to forget about the drive.

What's the deal you're working on now?

Yeah- the lack of pictures put me off a bit- Norwood is a bit of a hike for me now since I moved away from the North Shore.
The one I am working on is here in NH, the Caprice Classic listed under my vehicles. I found it online, with a rather sparse description. The elderly owner went into a home and it is being sold by the estate seller. I looked it over, we agreed on a price and waited for the seller to go back to the owner to get the completed bill of sale. Well, we agreed on $1500, they were asking $2K.
After days had passed with no contact, I got a call from the seller saying the owner rejected my offer, and now wanted $3K! I told them that was unacceptable and told them I would be willing to pay the original asking price. I got a call the next day saying the owner would accept $2500- but he was "thinking about it." I stood firm and told them to contact me if the owner changed his mind, which was over a week ago.
It's a shame, it is a clean car but it needs mechanical work to be driven very far and was blocked in the garage by a dumpster so test driving it wasn't possible.
My feeling is that the owner just doesn't want to give it up- but the waiting and possibly missing better cars in the meantime is killing me.

    Caprice Wagon:

It's been a while but I think that's the same car that was listed on CL in early August. They were asking $2000 then and when I phoned she told me they went up to $2500. - that was on a friday, about a month after the first posting. We were supposed to set up a Monday meeting but I never heard from her. I'm pretty sure her name is Sylvester (last name). I think she's over her head - possibly waiting for the poor fellow to kick it in. That's pretty bad on my part to put it like that but, really, she can't make up her mind about a car? There isn't much of a difference between 1500 to 2500. I think the car had around 91k on it. Good luck.

So You are the mystery man on the Cape! Cape Ann didn't even occur to me until I finished typing the previous post that you might be the other buyer. What a small world.
Yes- it is the same car. It makes me feel better to know at least we both got the same story, and that you are a fellow wagon enthusiast. From what I have been told, she is unwell so that might explain why you never heard from her.
I understand what you are saying, but I do believe you are correct- I believe she might be a bit over her head, as far as the seller overriding her decisions that were previously agreed upon.
I agree, 1500 to 2500 isn't much of a difference- it was more that I had already paid for the car and then I was told differently.
Thanks- I think I'll need it!

    Mystery Man?

Did she say I'm the mystery man on the cape? Rest assured - I've already passed on the car - all yours. The one thing I've never done with a car is get into a bidding war. If you don't intend to use it as an everyday driver - then why not tell her your time is limited to keep an offer on the table. I never quite got the story straight from the beginning. I think there is another younger woman who might be contributing to the confusion. You can even tell her I'm out of the picture although I'm not sure that'll get you anywhere. I don't want to turn my appreciation for wagons into a headache. As I said, good luck, and tell her you have to get the car under cover before the first frost.

    Mystery Man?

No, mystery man is my phrase. When I retrieved my check from the sellers' husband, he mentioned another buyer on the Cape. I thought he was bluffing to drive up the price. Ok, thanks for letting me know that you have moved on, I appreciate that. I'm sticking with what I offered, because that is what it is worth to me and what I have budgeted. Bidding wars are of no interest to me either- having bought cars at auction, it is just too stressful for my tastes.
The limited timetable offer is a fantastic idea. I'll have to try that, even though I do intend to use it as an occasional daily driver. You are correct, there is a younger woman involved as well (her daughter) I have had a hard time getting the story straight as well- it is convoluted. I will keep you out of it, although I bet she would wonder about how I came by this information.
