On Wednesday evening I recieved a call from my sister that my brother in-laws best friend was killed in a auto accident along with the driver of the other car.He was 48 and the driver of the other car 17, she would have been 18 Friday. She crossed the center line on a 2-lane highway and hit him head on. Her phone was found at scene, she was in the middle of texting. John was a mechanic and father and grandfather. The young girl had her whole life ahead of her. Please remember DO NOT TEXT AND DRIVE!!! It could prevent tragedys like this...My heart and prayers go out to both these families!!!
Using a hand held while driving is illegal in California, as it should be. I assume LA hasnt laws in place yet?
So sad! No matter how many laws are made, people will break them and die. I can't even type on here and drink coffee without making a mess. I do believe many states have no texting, maybe no cell phones, while driving. But it's so important to call sis. mom, boyfriend, or hairdresser. Even adult professionals do it. How did we get by ten years ago?
Sorry to read this, my heart is out for BOTH families. There are so many gadits today that distract drivers and for the newer generation it's a part of life and sadly these things have to happen..but they shouln't
They passed it not too long ago...I am just not sure if they are enforcing it yet but unless it has stiff penalties not sure it is going to keep people from doing this...
We were back visiting the kids, our two grandkids were never without their phone, sometimes also I-Pod and laptop. Even the six month old new grandbaby had a toy that blinked and made noises, looking much like a cell phone. Naturally, in a few years when they are driving, they will want to be texting or talking! We need to teach them now!----------Speaking of laws, it's been illegal most places to have a radar detector. They are still being sold and used. Many cleaverly hidden as other things.
Here the CHP makes it a mission and I guess the first offence is around $300. People will still do it ... but like drunk driving, they are gonna eventually get their license jerked and if they STILL drive, off to jail. Its gonna be a long (and deadly) process to edgucate the public.
I'm so, so sorry to hear this. There is so much of this...wasted lifes. Please pass along our thoughts and prayers to your sister's friends.
Sadly You are right...just read in paper other day about 24 year old running from cops, crased into a pole luckily no one injured...he was booked with his 7th DWI...now the state is pointing fingers at why he was not serving time!
It's a pretty big problem where I live. You'll look over and see grandmas texting, I **** you not. I'm almost afraid to drive my car for fear someone's going to destroy it.
So sorry to hear, if you have to text, wait till there is a redlight or pull over!!! Sorry for all involved
------How can anything be so important to text or talk while driving? All of us old folks got old by paying attention to our driving. Talk at the office, talk at the breakfast table, talk while doing anything except driving. Phone booths were invented to make phone calls.......... Sadly even Superman has no place to change anymore!
I won't even wait for a red light. If I have to return a message, I hand it to my cupholder. She can text with one hand while holding my Dr Pepper. You can't buy accessories like her anymore: Definitely a keeper!
You bought her?! Just earlier today I saw a guy texting while he was drivng his hummer... and not one of the smaller ones either! He was all over the road and he almost hit a taurus that was in the oncoming lane. I drove slowly to back away from him give him room. I had been driving next to him for most of the way home. Scarry, stupid crap.
