'My' first wagon was Dad's '78 Plymouth Suburban, 400 big block and a beautiful highway cruiser. My own first wagon was a rusted out '79 Malibu with a 267. Loved that wagon and went everywhere that tires could take it, and some places I shouldn't have. Upgraded to an '82 Olds Cutlass Cruiser when the kids came along, 305 4bbl and air conditioning. That was a great little wagon. You wouldn't believe how we loaded it down. Added a slightly warmer cam, Edelbrock Performer intake and rear factory sway bar. (You wouldn't have believed the sludge in that engine, though, from a plugged PCV). Had to let it go when the frame rails rotted away. Now I'm in a '93 Roadmaster wagon, 5.7 TBI. This is a nice big car. I've upgraded the front and rear anti-sway bars, Monroe police shocks all around, AirLift 1000 bags in the rear springs, and replaced the A/C system. I've also rebuilt the steering box because of excessive wander. This thing now handles great! The rear sway bar setup, by the way, is adapted from the Ford Crown Victoria rear police bar, but it can bolt up within about 30 minutes. It was probably under $100 and worth every penny. Anyway, looking forward to some great reading and will offer whatever help I can.
Welcome, and yes those roadmasters are a nice cruzin machines. I like the older styles too but ya can't beat the roadmasters for comfort!!
Fannie....TBI = throttle body injection. to the wagon train moman. Those Roadies are nice wagons for sure. Post up some pix when you have the time.
moparman. A moparman driving a Buick. Makes as much sense as a Model T driving a Chevy wagon. As long as they have wheels and tires we love em all! Enjoy the forum and your newest toy.
My passions are Mopars, and I have an '80 Cordoba LS awaiting a warmed over 360 for next spring. But my daily driver is the Roadmaster. Big, roomy, effortless cruising. Holds family, dog, luggage to the lake, plywood, drywall, goose decoys, deer, camping gear, you name it. I like the Magnums, but they have two strikes against them in my mind. 1, no woodgrain, 2, not big enough. The wagon appears bone-stock, except for some rusty rear quarters.
