How do you feel about tinted windows? On newer cars i personally feel it's a must. I've been having a hard time deciding whether or not to do it on my older vehicles. I think it takes away from the vintage look and it's not like I'm going for a hot rod look. I'll leave most of my reasoning for wanting tints to your imagination.
-----If you live in a place like I do, Florida, tinted windows not only look KOOL, they help keep you cool! Funny, the law says windows can only be a certain darkness. Yet newer cars, even local police cars, are now so dark you can't even see if there is a driver in them. And the way some dirve, I begin to wonder. Sold our 1955 Chevy wagon.. Stupid move. Took three years to get it back. The windows, even top 1/3rd of windshield were super black. Had to remove it from the two front door windows to see traffic at night. I believe a medium tint looks nice and helps against the sun's rays. Many years ago I even used a spray blue tint on our black 1939 Ford 4dr. Wasn't bad. As they say about all auto work----it's your toy, play with it the way you want to!
when i had my truck it was tinted at 15% all around and i did the windshield at 50% i loved the way it looked but i don't see the same effect on an older model car. Yes it was illegal, but i managed to escape with only 1 ticket during a tinted window checkpoint. my first car, a 1990 honda accord also had illegal tints. i was driving one day during the winter and my license was suspended. i saw a state trooper coming from a distance so i managed to roll down all my manual windows to avoid getting pulled over. the cop pulls up next to me while i'm shivering and says "that was smart for you to do, but i can still pull you over. get it fixed." and then he took off.
i am a tint lover helps save the interior from fading or cracking, what i am looking for is the tint that works like prescription glasses that get dark in sunlight and goes clear indoors or at night.
------------I had that with eye glasses. Worked fast even when backing a semi into a dark loading dock. Was great. I'm sure it can be done with auto glass. Maybe a new factory option because I don't think it could be added later. Heck, maybe they can make bifocals and prescription lenses in the glass for you people without lense implants like we have now. Of course, when someone else buys your vehicle they'd have to get the prescription changed by changing all glass!
they do make it in a film or at least they used to my dad had it in the back windows of his old gmc van
On older vehicles I tend to say no to tints unless it fits the style, era and theme of the vehicle. But... today I added some split bamboo curtains to the SurfRatWagon.
I spent last Sunday steaming the tint off the rear windows of the '92 Olds CC wagon I just bought, that's seven of them including ultra-cool rear vent windows... I wish they were power. It was like a dark purple tinted leather dungeon in the back, now it's all bright back there and you can see through the windows at night. I have nothing to hide, has a luggage shade for that anyway, some guy selling a Roadmaster wagon on evibay thought the luggage shade was a rare pull out sleeping cover for camping.
