Heya, Im new to this forum (hence me posting this) and just thought i would take the time to introduce my self. My name is Ryan, I've lived in Texas all my life and am curentally trying to restore a 1974 Ford Country Squire to its former glory. I've inherited this car from my grandfather at age 15 and have been obsessed with it ever since. I am a 16 year old homeschooled kid and am working with a extremely small budget so I've come to this website hoping to find tips and tricks that i can use to help me with my seemingly continuous journey to perfect the Country Squire.
Welcome aboard! Glad to see a younger person getting into wagons! I bought my Caprice when I was 17. Stick with 'em, these wagons are fine vehicles.
WElcome Paper Show. YOu've definitely come to the right place. We've tons of members that have Squires and many of them are in the midst of restoring them as well. I'm sure you'll get some great tips.
Ryan, that's pretty cool, your grandfather giving you his car. He must be very proud of you to enturst his wagon to you. Do you know how long he had it? It's a great looking car hope you have fun with it... :2_thumbs_up_-_anima
Yes he bought it from a professor he knew at the University of Texas in 1976, (wean the car was 2 years old) and it had been in use untill the mid 80s wean he could not afford to drive it and put it into storage under a car port behind his house. He rembered i really liked playing in and on it wean i was younger. We had done some work on it together but wean he passed last year he left it to me in his will. So I've just recently got the car to pass inspection so naturally Ive been driving it as much as possible. It runs pretty good considering it has been sitting for around 25 years, I just need to do some more work to it wean I can afford the parts and have some things that i can't do myself wean I can afford it as well. My grandfather also made many modifications to the wagon, like installing a novelty horn, a police scanner, and a cb radio. So I plan to make it look and drive better than it did wean it came off the showroom floor, but naturally it will take time.
Welcome to the forum Ryan. The Ford LTD is very much a gentle giant of sorts, I have had five LTDs, and out of that, three wagons ('77, '78, and '83). They are a pretty loyal breed and maintenance parts are easy to find. My first Country Squire, '77. My '78
Wow, gorgeous wagons there, Nut. Love what you did to the red one. They didn't make them any bigger than those!
Hey Wagon Nut, thank you for recommending this site to me, I am glad I joined I have already learned much useful information about many topics i was wondering about, Thanks again, ~Ryan
No problem Ryan. Been on here for years, just an awesome easy going group of auto enthusiasts here to support the passion and hobby of station wagons. Glad you came aboard, the more the merrier! BTW, my name is Jonathan
