me and my dad have been thinking about making a ratrod out of my 81 fairmont wagon i just love the matte black look. it won't be a cheap spray bomp paint i'll be using a product called hot rod flatz and i already have a set of oem 14 inch steel wheels painted red. and i found a set of 1960 falcon dog dish hubcaps i'll just need some wide white wall tires. what do you all think?
the fairmonts in fair shape no rust and just 2 big dents its my daily driver

Wild! I'd do it with doors from a 2-door and rear quarter windows from a country squire (same height and curve, but need to be cut to length.) and the Zephyr vents on the front fenders with a hood scoop facing the driver, to load up the idiot lights and make more room for gauges on the dash. Also use the Zephyr grille (verticle bars, not the eggcrate grille).

Sounds like a plan to me. The matte paints are much more forgiving of body flaws and psycologically you won't worry much about dings.

dang it i get on here first time in a while (still stuck workin nights) and ya,ll gotta ask that question,,,,,,,i just finished last weekend shootin my malibu flat black i,ve had the red steelies on for awhile now and i shaved the door handles, frenched an antennae in the fender and shaved the roof rack,,,,i like the look,,, and i know rev,,, flat black and red steelies,,, i got a wild hair and had some blue base coat so its got scallops on the hood, roof, and sides,, i,m as we speak am finishing them up i got flat clear to put over them and them some pinstripin to do ,,,,the whole reason i did this to mine is 1) i like the look ,,,,,2) this is a driver,,,,,3) this was a excersize in frugality 4)i like the look,,,,5) all the above now mind you i know you can kinda fudge on the flat colors but i spent a good deal of time on mine as my my neighbor said dude you worked your ass off ,,,,so i spent almost enough time for shiney paint but being rather anal i refused the temptation to spend another month getting it in some shiney paint,,,,,,,,,,,anyways the point to my long winded drivel is yea that fairmont would look way kool in flat paint,,,,,,,,

    ...K.....you asked!!:49:

I...being old enuff to have gone thru...(I shudder at the term:rednose:)
I wont say it...I'll say 'flat n steelies'...the 1st time when it was fresh!!!

Now its just a worn out idea and style!!

Sorry for being blunt...and I'm usually apprehensive of voicing ...shall we say....'strong NET opinion':p

If you dont wanna paint it....then at least do it in a "suede"...(a flattened colour)....with colour co ordinated rims..:)...like BLUES...or Reds....anything but....FB...:)

Just my 2 bits....I may owe ya change;)

it will be suede the hot rod flatz is a urethane finish that provides excellent adhesion to properly prepared steel, aluminum, fiberglass and OEM finishes. Hot Rod Flatz also contains UV inhibitors to protect your finish from fading and chalking like traditional primers. Now you don't have to be limited to just primer for your flat look. just got my steel wheels painted red and tires mounted no wide whites yet tho
