Hi All, Brand new to this site--and VERY glad to find one devoted to station wagons. I'm currently driving an 83 Volvo 245GL with a modified Ford 5.0 H0. My bride had been driving it since 1987 (and since 1995 with the V8), but with the addition of a newer Volvo sedan, I get to drive a wagon again  I learned to drive in a 1960 Chrysler Windsor HT 9-pass wagon--I was the oldest of 8 kids. That car was followed by another (1964) Chrysler 9-pass wagon. I remember the '60 very well--long fins, and a "golden lion" engine (seem to remember it looking like a carb on each side of the engine--but that was LONG ago . . . . Anyways, thank in advance for letting me hang here once in a while! Steve A-
Thanks! We've got a few of the 240s still hanging around--oldest son has a modified 93 244, youngest son has an 83 244 turbo. They're good safe cars, and I can still work on them (kind of) . . . but the wagon is the best, even with almost 300k miles . . . .
Cool hood ornament too! I wish I still had my sons 245. Great car even at 220,000 miles. The a/c fan quit and it was a major bugger to change.
Welcome to the forums, you have a very nice sleeper wagon Must be fun freaking people out at red lights!
Nice Wagon,This is the first I've heard of a 5.0 in a volvo,is this a common thing to do?,because I think I want one. Moparwagon
well speakin as a guy whos had a couple o VooVoo's...but only 1 with a SBF in her!! I say ... cool toys!!
Thanks for the link to that thread,I missed that one.Being A Mopar guy,I wonder about putting a Dodge 360 in a Volvo.Hmmmm.......
"Voldge" would be good--I've been referring to ours as a "Fjord." I've been playing with the Ford oval some; maybe someday I can get something milled for it . . . something like the attached picture or "VLV"? I got the "bug" for doing the Ford V8 swap when I found out that a new engine harness for the original Volvo b23f engine was going to cost over a grand (long story about wiring degrading insulation in the early 80s cars)--and after reading about a guy named Ross Converse putting a crate motor (with blower) into a Volvo 960 for a guy named Paul Newman. Soon after he built another one for David Letterman. After reading a few more articles, I called Ross and got one of his first do-it-yourself 240 kits in fall of 1995. It went together pretty well, the exhaust being the toughest part. Only proble was that we had to rebuild the AOD after about a year--so built it up with a transgo shift kit, commercial clutch packs, wider kevlar overdrive band, stronger OD servo, plus some internal mods, etc. Also put in an anti-spin 3.73:1 rear at the same time. It's been very reliable over the last 12 years (had to be--it was my bride's daily driver). But over the last year or so, I started gathering the stuff I needed to pump it up a little (GT40 aluminum heads, 1.7:1 roller rockers, cobra intake manifold, etc). More go meant more stop so I also put in new front brakes (aluminum 4-pot calipers from a Mazda RX7 turbo II and bigger discs from a Volvo 940 turbo). The picture at the top of the post is from when I finished it up a couple of weeks back. There are apparently quite a few V8 Volvos out there. After driving our car a couple of times, a local dentist had a Volvo 242 coupe with a big GM engine built for him (I think they used some of the parts available through "Jags That Run" http://www.jagsthatrun.com/Pages/Volvo_200_V-8.html). Not sure if the chrysler 340 (or 360?) would fit--but there's one sitting in the corner of the garage so I could take some quick measurements if anyone is interested. Again, glad to be here!
excellent! Another T-bricker on this forum. I too own wagons and I'm especially fond of my 88 745t originaly owned by Paul Newman. The motor is from a 1987 Buick Grand National V6 3.8. I live in Virginia Beach ....... not too far away from Yorktown. Anyways welcome aboard anderssj.
