Came home today from an appointment and parked my 1978 Ford LTD Country Sedan station wagon in the driveway. Went inside and twenty minutes later a tree that had been eaten from the inside by bugs fell on my car. This car was a totally factory original car. Original paint, interior, motor, trans, and I was the second owner. A little over 84,000 original miles. I had owned it for 6 years and drove it almost daily. It was a fine ride. It is a total loss.
Really sorry to hear of your loss. I nearly lost a car that way myself once, but got lucky and the tree in that instance did very little damage. There was a 77 Country Sedan wagon for sale at a cruise in at Manassas, Virginia a couple weeks ago, but I didn't get the phone number. If I see it again, I'll get the number. http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.185111388202586.43330.100001111775214&l=43f293199a
Yes, it seems that they become part of your family. We had some great times with the kids traveling the Blue Ridge Parkway and other trips. Cuda, if you see the other station wagon definitely let me know. Thanks all, Thom
Hillbilly, We were planning a trip with the wagon in late August down in your neck of the woods. We were going to pull a travel trailer. All my family live in the Hickory, Valdese, Morganton & Asheville area. Thom
So sorry to hear of your loss. Who would think a vehicle parked in the driveway would suddenly be a total loss. This looked like a very nice Country Sedan. David
Sorry to hereabout that for sure. Surprisingly, yours is not the first late 70's Ford wagon that has met an untimely demise around here.
aw,,,,man, tw....really, really sorry for you and the family! Life is not at all fair, but.....it should be more fair than this! I truly hope you find another cherry that you love as much.
In the link I posted, there was a photo of the wagon for sale. I tried to blow up the photo to read the phone # on the for sale sign, but it just wasn't clear enough. The wagon doesn't show up every week, but I've seen it there before, so if the seller still has it, he will probably be back and I'll get the phone #. Looks like the price was $2000.
Thanks Jim, Yes, it was a fine ride. I had almost decided to repaint it but still a bit undecided as then it would not be original anymore. The tree that fell on it was scheduled to be taken down next week. And I usually did not park it in that location in the driveway. It just so happened that the shade form another tree was on the driveway and I parked it there as it was quite warm outside. I was only stopping by the house to pickup some paperwork and going to an appointment. Who would have figured!?
