Hello to all! I am a guy that works up in northern Alberta Canada - about a 10 hour drive northwest of Edmonton. A part of my job is to deal with abandoned vehicles that I might come across while out in "the field". I came across a old wreck of a car some time ago, but had no way to get it out of the bush... until today. A friend with a D8 Cat was able to drag the thing out to the road for me for removal by the RCMP. I found this website and thought I mention it to those interested that it is in pretty bad condition, but might have a few useful parts. As near as I can figure it, it looks like a late 50's model Pontiac Strato Chief station wagon. I have a few relatives that like to restore cars, and know how hard it is to find parts sometimes so I thought I'd just mention it to anyone reading this. If you're interested in finding something on this car, please let me know ASAP as the car will be removed for scrap very soon. I have a few pictures and can possibly strip one or two things before the tow truck gets it in the next day or two. There is no motor or transmission. Interested people can send an email to me at normvanvliet@yahoo.ca
Hey....thanks for the heads up, clunk. Much appreciated....never know who may need a fender or something else off that wagon. People have a hard time finding posts and reacting as quickly as you want, though. Wish that wagon was going to hang around a bit longer to give people time to find the post and contact you. Anyway, thanks again for the heads up.
Very nice of you to offer it up here. Thanks. Hope it gets put some use before it meets it's final fate.
We appreciate your efforts on trying to save it. It is rough, but I can see a few good things on it just from the one good close-up picture. That passenger side Fender doesn't look too bad. Just curious if you would sell the whole car? Bill
Replying to Bill T It's a possibility you could get it for free, but the trouble is getting it from here to there. Not sure that it's worth it to you? If it is, please let me know soon! There is another one that is about a 4 hour drive away from here that might be something you could combine for a project.
Appreciate the offer, but I was just curious for some other members that may be close to it. As much as I would like to have it, it is definitely too far for me. Someone out there go for this car!! Bill
This is very thoughtful of you to take the time to try and help out someone with these parts You are going to stick around aren't you??? Hey if you happen to find a '68 Beaumont/Chevelle out there in the bushes PLEASE let me know.
So your the guy "big Brother" sends to take peoples cars! JK welcome from somewhere you'll never find me!
Welcome! Very cool job you must have! Never knowing what the day may bring, LUV IT! Looks like some good chrome pieces, door handles, script, etc. What a great thing for you to do!
to Fannie I will stick around for sure. My step dad has a few 37 Chevy's that he's restored and I helped a bit on his 38. Just about ready for the rumble seat... And as for the coolest car I've ever laid eyes on (no offense to the wagon owners here) is the 1928 Isotta Fraschini. About a $3 million car but she sure is pretty! Now if only I could find one of those in ANY shape in the bush... LOL I will keep my eyes open though for that '68 for you. This Strato Chief just goes to show you that you never know...
If you're wondering In case you want to know what that 1928 Isotta Fraschini looks like, here is the car that I've seen personally and had the chance to check out up close and personal including the book they are flipping through. I saw it in a shop getting some final touches in Ohio 2 years ago. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-olUSntNaH4
