I'm Builder. I have a 57 Chevy 150 Delivery. It is 1 of 92 made. Special order with windows. Thought I'd drop in to say hello.

Well, this one is one I stumbled across. Of course I would like to restore the body, But since the engine was originally a "six", I would big block it. Undecided what to do with it yet. May even sell it.

 

Drop a turbo on that six, and you won't need a bigblock. More torque at the bottom, and mean at the top. And laugh all the way to next week on a tank of gas!

I plan on doing mine this fall.

 

Do you have a picture of the back door? Looks like a very cool project.

I put a picture of the firewall marked "SPL" and the handyman tailgate in my profile also.

1tireman...I am considering selling it because I have quite a few cars. Too many.

Here are some of my barn finds.

1. 1969 Corvette, full leather, A/C and power options with a base 350. Sat for 18 years in Carlsbad, CA. I flew down there, got it running and drove it back to SD. http://www.stovebolt.com/features/sagas/vandenberg/index.html http://www.stovebolt.com/features/sagas/vandenberg/3a
2. 1971 GMC 3/4 ton PU with 49K actual miles. THe guy stored it in my dad's shed since it was new. He only took it out to go camping. It saw snow one time. I asked about the truck for 6 years or so until he finally called me back and said he would part with it. 3. 1940 Chevrolet 2dr sedan. It sat in a heated garage for 16 or so years. The daughter of the original owner saw pictures of old cars in my office and wanted me to come out to take a look at an "old Chevy" that they wanted to get rid of. I bought it, got it running and drove it all summer long and part of the winter. I sold it to a guy who then drove it from SD to Texas.
4. I saw a 1970 Chevrolet Caprice 4dr hardtop sitting in a storage unit. The guy had a for sale sign in the windshield and I went over to take a look. He wanted $1500 for it and I told him I was just interested in the engine. He called me the next day and said that he wanted to buy a truck and needed some cash for a downpayment. I ended up giving him $700 for it. I had tilt steering, A/C and a 454 engine with SS hubcaps.
5. At a parts store I read an add for a GMC V8 engine for $300 (or something like that). I called and went down to look at it. It happened to come with the rest of the big panoramic rear window, deluxe trimmed cab PU with a hydromatic transmission....and a bunch of junk in the bed. http://www.stovebolt.com/gallery/vandenberg_steve_1958_02.html
6. 1966 Corvette Coupe leather, telescopic steering, teakwood steering wheel, 4 speed, posi, A/C and 327. A guy said he had it in his barn and hadn't talked about, or even looked at it in 10 years. He didn't even know what year it was. It had been parked in 1978...the year I graduated. 7. 1958 Fuel Injected Corvette was the first Corvette I ever sat in when I was 17 years old. I was a hang around with some biker guys and my brother. Tom was one of those people. He let me sit in the 58 and I asked about it over the next decade or so. It was never for sale (or at least within my reach) and I kind of forgot about it. Every time I came to visit Tom, I would wander out back and all I could see was the rear fender and wheel underneath a tarp. There was all kinds of stuff stacked around the car and I hadn't seen it uncovered more than twice in nearly 30 years. One day I asked about it and picked it up the next day. That's persistance! It was also featured in Corvette Fever magazine as Rare Corvette Finds.

There are more cars out there. Someone asked me my secret. I told them that I don't hang out with too many car guys. They certainly aren't going to tell you where they are.
