Ya know....it has miles, but, if this car was near me, ran decent and it stayed under $1K I would buy it for a DD. This is a no reserve auction and they have not pulled it off yet. The miles will scare some away, but, that 3.0 may have a lot of miles left. This COULD end up being a deal...2 days left. If you live near this car and need a wagon DD I would go test drive it. Wish I could test drive it.
    EDIT:
I just noticed that this car dealer charges $195 doc fee. I don't deal with those dealers that have doc fee charges. Especially in the $200 range. When I had my car lot my doc fees were $0.

    FYI....
The engine in this one is the 'plain' 3.0 V6, with single overhead cams, and puts out a measly 145hp or so. The engine to have would be the DOHC 3.0, with around 200hp. You would see a emblem for it on the front fender.

I have never driven one other than the Sable sedan my dad bout new in 99, it had the DOHC that Krash mentions. I can say it was a fast car, on the highway 100mph felt like 60mph and it allways seemed to never top out. Myself I have mixxed emotions though about them, My Dad's car seemed to allways be in the shop for some electrical/computor repairs. Maybe it's the type of ice and snow we get here but it was also useless on icey/snowy roads. Come to think, I have posted about these before and how seeing them in snow ice....I don't think I'd take one, for a winter car.

But Fox, you want one?, there are lots allways for sale here. I'll pick ya up in...you tell me witch of my wagons.....

Just thought it may end up being a good deal for a DD. It was at 5 hundred & change. BUT...the rip off doc fees have made it a no no for me. For 6 or 700 hundred I wouldn't care how bad it was on ice....don't drive on it if I can help it anyway.

I had the "plain" 3.0 v6 that put out a measly 140hp in my old '90 Taurus and it was adequate for getting around and got good mileage. Also had 220k miles when I sold it and ran like a top and burned no oil. It was the auto transaxles that were a weak point.

I'd drive the hell out of that posted wagon for the right price.

Me too, Kev. Unfortunately, with 6 hours left it is up to $1400 which, with the rip off fees, makes it $1600. I was hoping to see this go off at under a thousand because of the miles. No such luck.

Wow... the underside of my car is cleaner that engine compartment. Why do people buy cars and then not take care of them? I sold my last car at 198,000 and you could have ate off the engine.

Just because they didn't steam clean the engine every 5000 miles doesn't mean it wasn't taken care of/properly maintained.

Who said anything about 'steam cleaning every 5,000 miles'? 30 minutes with Simple Green and a hose once or twice a year does just fine.

And if they did properly care for (it), it wouldn't look like it does. Hell, they can't even spend 30 minutes with some plastic polish on the headlights. And the lack of care would make me suspect a likely lack of maintenance. You either care about your car or you don't.

I would respectfully disagree with that assessment. There are tons of people driving out there that know absolutely nothing about cars and strictly use them for transportation only. The rain is their car wash and "something" in never-never land makes it go down the road. When I worked at my dad's garage when I was a kid we had a lot of customers like that. They depended on my dad to keep their cars in good mechanical shape and that's what my dad did. Even though these people were not cosmetically inclined they did follow my dad's advice and have anything mechanical fixed when it needed it. The oil was changed religiously and any parts replaced when they showed signs of wear or had become a problem. While the engine compartment was never cleaned, these cars were in excellent shape.
Those young years working with my dad at the garage must have, somehow, rubbed off on me. When I had my car lot I had (still have) an uncanny knack of spotting really good cars at the dealer auctions that other dealers wouldn't look at because they weren't detailed to the max. A dirty car simply does not mean a bad car.

That's not 'dirty'; that's neglect. Both the engine and the lights.

    Yes and No!

My dad bout new a 87 T-Bird HO 5.0 and drove that car for alomst 300.000 miles! I did what I could to keep it 'clean when it comes to detail" but it was in a way impossible. Dad was road tripping N-America constantly. He kept records/reciets for everything including oil and lube reciets from but f*** no where USA/Canada. Dad never had the hands on when it came to cars due to health but was anal when it came to oil changes, service etc, I was doing oils changes and brake pads/shoes at age 10 for him..to then have him bring our camper Van and me to a local service staion that were trusted friends...they tought me alot as a kid. He drove where ever, when ever, no matter the weather and all he could pysiclly was wash the out side and keep the interiour imaculate,,,the rest was left up to service stations where ever he ended up and the under hood showed this. His 5.0 ran like a champ but didn't really look it, his plastic lamps were also hazed like this wagon yet the car was taken care of and not neglected.

My Dad's '03 Ram 3500 diesel is a good example of a truck that is very dirty but well taken care of. It has never missed a oil change in the 238,000 miles but since it spends it's life working on commercial construction site it is hard to keep clean. I do try to clean it 1 a month for him but usually by the end of the month the truck looks like it has never been washed it's entire life. On the other hand it is hard to tell who has a dirty car and who has a neglected car so I guess it's a roll of the dice IMO but I've never been scared to buy a dirty car.
