Now that's a great question. Where is my sense of adventure? Worn down by middle age, marriage and 3 kids! Nah, just kidding. If I could I would have, but really it's not that much more. Presume 2800 miles X an optimistic 18 MPG with the 390 and an equally optimistic average of $3.75 a gallon across country and I'm already $583 dollars. Figure $50 a day in food, 3 days, and now I'm at 733. Add the cost of a one-way cross country ticket, and it's probably 900 best case scenario. My shipping is coming in around 975 to 1050, and for that difference, I'll let them do the work! Still, it was tempting at one point.
Yeah.....car buy trips can be mucho fun, but, with your distance from the car and, especially, with the gas prices now, you are probably better off doing what you are doing. Gas, distance, motel, food, possible car trouble, your time etc.....I think it will likely be more cost efficient to have it shipped if you find the right company. I used to have a site that you could go to and enter all your info and ALL the car movers had access to that site. Lost that and am very upset that I did. A company may see your list and know that he is coming your way and give you a better price. Sure wish I wouldn't have lost that site addy.
Great wagon and welcome aboard. Where in Virginia are you. I'm in northern Virginia just outside of Washington, DC.
You're very close. I'm in Sterling. I guess I'll be seeing you and your wagon at the local Friday evening cruise in at the Chik Fil A by the Lowes in Sterling on Friday evenings once the weather gets warm. Theres another member from Lovettsville with a 62 Olds F-85 wagon that I met at the Chik Fil A cruise in last year. Theres also a larger Saturday afternoon/evening cruise in at the Burger King in Manassas at RT 28 and Pennsylvania Ave near the Manassas Airport and the RT 234 bypass. Again we just need to wait for the weather to get a little warmer. The only multi make car show I attend locally is the Fathers Day antique car show at Sully Plantation. I hope I'll see your wagon there too. You should definitly plan on attending the Carlisle Ford Nationals in Carlisle, PA in June (3rd-5th). Its only a 2 hour drive from here and you should have no trouble finding any parts you need there.
Great tips on Carlisle. I hope to make that. I've been to the Chik fil A many times and the Sully show twice. I think I will bring it up there. Great idea. I'm also having an International Harvester Scout II restored, plan to drive it as my daily driver - so it's getting more safety upgrades and driveability upgrades. Maybe I'll bring em both.
Glad to hear there are some other weird guys around. Yea I like to drive and wrench on my two wagons also. Something about getting use and also having a nice car appeals to me. I had a show truck once, but just showing and cleaning it got to me so I sold it. I've got an older S-10 that I drive in the bad weather so I don't have to drive the wagons in it. I like your wagon. Good luck with it!!
If you've got room for another one in your garage, this 64 Colony Park from Texas, has been on the Northern Virginia Craigslist for months. http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/cto/2288380438.html Earlier ads showed photos and the 64 looked fairly decent.
Dang! That's right in my backyard! I may go take a look at it anyway. NO WAY I could get wifely approval for two of these. But I may check it out to see what one of them looks like up close and personal.
HUMMMM? Theirz that sense of adventure thing again Mark! The phrase "HIZ 'N HERZ" comez tah mind With ah 390 in it Wifey'll be doin' hole shotz 'n wheel standz IN THE DRIVEWAY BTW, If you can lock in the transportation on your new Phord for the dough mentioned, GO FOR IT Last one I moved from Montana to Michigan cost me almost that much and that waz 10 yearz ago!
