Hi all, I've been a member of this forum for a while but now am looking to pull the trigger and actually buy one of these big beasts. The car I'm looking at is a 1966 Mercury Colony Park. My Dad always bought Country Squires, so I have some great memories of riding in the "way back" across country. If you all could point me to some resources for the Colony Parks that would be hugely helpful. Also if anyone has any pointers on what to look out for that's helpful too. The car seems solid and I'm not buying it to turn into a councours car. Just to drive, wrench on it, and enjoy. If anyone is interested, here's the listing of it: http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/cto/2281185071.html Thanks. Mark
to the wagon train, Mark. Personally....if that car is as nice as it looks, I think the price is right. A little bargaining is always helpful, though. The thing I always worry about most is RUST. Check it over very carefully for serious rust issues. I'm hoping some Ford guys will chime in here and tell you where the specific areas are to look on that wagon. I sure do like the looks of that wagon and the engine is right, too. Wish I could see the inside, though. I would like it better if it had power windows and I'm assuming it has a bench front seat. Those things aside....that's a good looking wagon for the money IF the car is right.
Thanks for responding. I figured rust was the biggest issue and he says it doesn't have any "East Coast Rot" but there is some rust. He's going to send me more pics today - it's on the West Coast, I'm East Coast - so I can't go see it in person, but I've had luck in the past like that. Anyway, I appreciate the response. And if anyone knows of a cheap coast to coast shipper, I'm all ears!
Do you know anyone out there that can look at it for you? From what I can see it looks good under the hood. If it was a Seattle car all its life it could be fairly rust free. Ask where the car has lived ALL its life. Hey....if you get more pix, post them up.....although, and I could be wrong, I don't see that car hanging around for a long time. Really do need more pix, though. In, out & under. With close ups of the rust areas.
Does it come with that great looking dog? I think per Fat Tedy that at least one dog in the back is required.
Just bought it? COOL!! Looks like a great driver and potential for anything else, Mark. Welcome to the wagon family!
Congrats on the the new wagon , I live about 20 miles North of where this car is, so If you need anything let me know, I will try to help. I was going to look at it when I saw the ad on Craigslist but then I bought the 1963 Ford wagon. That Colony Park appears to be in good shape. There seems to be some pretty decent, well preserved, station wagons up here in the Pacific Northwest still. Do you plan on driving it home or shipping it? Thanks, Bill Your car is famous! there appears to be pictures of it on Wikipedia under Mercury Colony Park http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercury_Colony_Park
I am going to ship it, open truck. Adding a few more pics I have. He came down to $3150 in the end and is throwing in some goodies like another tranny, heater core, heater fan. So barring a major issue it should be a great driver. I may try to redo the woodgrain, etc., but want to go through it mechanically first.
Ha! I did see those pics and figured that one out. He said he had the rust on the tailgate fixed and doors, but now it's creeping back as you can see. But it's the same car. I will be shipping it - wish I had the time to come out and drive it back. I DO appreciate the offer to help. If anything goes sideways I may need it. But he seems really straightforward about it. I've always loved the country squire's for some odd reason, so when I saw this it was like a lightbulb went off. It's even more stylish to me than the Ford, especially for '66. I guess I'm just one of those weird guys who likes wagons and sedans. Don't know why, but I do!
if its the same one im recalling...i almost bought it about 3 years ago at a swap meet congrats on the buy Mark....great wagon!!!! oh ya.... to all things holy and wagon...or just holy wagons
