soo im guessing you dont drive the truck to work anymore? wait...isnt your daily a 6 cyl falcon wagon? dont those get near 30mpg ?
No, I posted some time back (January?) that my colum needs to be rebuilt, won't shift into nutral witch leaves ne stuck with only 2nd and 3rd gear. Once it warms up this spring I'll tear it out and do it.
First question is what is an aro/bird? Second question is how much concrete are you hauling to get your weight up to 6500#'s? Anyway since you asked, my Saturn gets about 27/34 right now. That 's in a 2400# car with a 1.9L. Hoping to improve on that with a 5 speed swap. My '95 Supercoupe got 24/31 before I swapped the rear gears to 3.27's. Now it's probably 23/27. That is a roughly 3700# car with a 3.8L. My '91 LTD mileage is so piss poor it's hard to calculate, but I put it at about 15. City or highway doesn't seem to matter. 2.73 rear or 3.55 rear didn't seem to make much difference either. That is a 3800# car with a 5.8L and brick like aerodynamics.
If the gas gauge works how can it be any harder to calculate than any other car? A real full-blown American station wagon like my Vista Cruiser gets 12 mpg in the city. Never go on the freeway for long enough so i have no idea what that mileage is. My wife calculated it because she drives it sometimes and had to know, I never figure gas mileage. I've had my GTO since '95 and I have no idea what it gets, I just put gas in when it needs it. It's the smiles per gallon, not the miles per gallon that counts.
And you live in MI??? GVW on the door is 5772, with me that an easy 6000lbs, with all the junk I carry, tool, real hydro jack...... 2 speaker boxes, 6500 rounded up easy.
GVW is Gross Vehicle Weight. It is the max weight recommended for the vehicle fully loaded with passengers and cargo. It is not how much it weighs empty. It is probably closer to 4000 lbs empty.
Hard as in difficult or painful. I don't really want to bother to do it. 15 is a pretty good guess based on my data set. Yeah. Most of the Camaro's and Firebirds left up here are completely trashed and/or rusted out.
'66 Chevy Biscayne Wagon, 427, 700R4, 3.55's, 4600 pounds, 15 in normal driving and 19 on the highway. '81 Olds Custom Cruiser, 350 diesel, 3 speed trans/2.73's, 22 highway '82 Olds Custom Cruiser, 350 diesel, 2004R, 2.93's, 24 in normal driving and 29 highway. I figure the Custom Cruisers are as heavy as the Biscayne.
Wow 81x11, that '79 Buick is gorgeous! I've been using applications on my Palm, and now my Android to keep track of mileage on all of my cars. I've got data going back almost 10 years. I really recommend aCar for tracking mileage, services, expenses, etc on Android phones if anyone else it interested. I posted some screenshots on my blog a while back if anyone cares. I don't wanna use the forum as a...forum for hyping my blog. PM me if you're interested in seeing the review and I can send a link. 1994 Roadmaster Estate LT1 5.7L/V8- 13.26 mpg 1981 Pontiac Parisienne 305/V8 - 12.17 mpg 1998 Chrysler Intrepid 2.7L/V6 - 21.64 mpg 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis 4.6L/V8 - 21.88 mpg Both the Intrepid and the Grand Marquis were my vehicles when I used to commute. Since I got a job in-town, I bought the Roadmaster and the Pontiac and they don't see highways as often as I'd like. The Pontiac is also slated for a new carburetor in the next couple of weeks as it's long overdue.
Thanks for the comment on the 79 Limited. It's a neat car. Have you had any issues with the 2.7 in your Intrepid? Those scare me. Had a co-worker buy one and it locked up at 60K miles. Chrysler would not warranty it, said the engine was full of sludge. My co-worker ALWAYS changed the oil on time. Just crurious. -Mike
I was one of the lucky ones. My 2.7 burned oil something fierce, but I don't think I had a sludge problem. I changed the oil a little more frequently than normal once I started reading reports of people having engine problems and Chrysler crying SLUDGE!. There was a class action suit against them about that but I replaced the Intrepid with the Grand Marquis before something serious happened. I've gotten rid of both the Intrepid and the Grand Marquis now. I just included them here as my software still has all of the mileage/service data in it.
Ah, smart move! Good deal. I guess that happened with all of those. Glad you got rid of it in time. Kinda sad, I liked the styling on those when they came out. GM's are not without fault...I can say honestly as I am a GM guy to the bone. I've had two Pontiac Bonnevilles, a 95 and a '96, and also my wife's current '01 Grand Prix. All have the plastic intake plenum on the 3800 V6. Those fail over time and the engines fill with coolant and lunch themselves. I love the 3800's, all have gotten above 25mpg and have good power, but I change my intakes around 60K miles, leaking or not. Such fun! -Mike
I love the 3800, too, but the newer plastic intakes are dangerous. I've seen 2 different one's of those blow up and nearly took my friends' face or hands off. You don't want one of those to back fire wrong if you are leaning over it! They can become a grenade.
