Barto PM'ed me with the answer and he's correct. But Barto wants to see how long it takes for someone else to come up with the right answer.
Of course my hint indicated that two letters of the name could be found in the name "Subaru" and that one of the letters was in the same position as it appears in "Subaru". Audi would be a good guess since "A" and "U" are both found in "Subaru" and the "U" appears in the same position. But, the make of the wagon in question is Not an Audi. Remember, I also said its not made in Germany.
However, I think i must reveal that "Audi" is the answer to the bonus question. The car in question is based on an Audi. There is no "U" in the name of the make of car shown.
    Next guess?

When I saw the red wagon this morning, I immediately thought that it looks like an Audi A4 Avant, but with different taillights and rear window. So I'm guessing that Audi licensed some vehicle designs to Checkoslovakia (sp?) of some eastern-block country. Would have thought I had heard of something like that, but I haven't.....

    Answer - Spain (?)

    Seat Exeo....based on Audi A4

    Hi KK, I felt lonely.
Audi, and the car maker you're looking for, belong to the same company. They used to recycle their chassis and engines thru several makes, from popular to elitist, from low budget to high tech sports cars, from West to East Europe and from North to South.
The red estates (basically the previous generation of an Audi reshaped and rebadged) is not from Eastern Europe, but from Southern...
    Hope so it'll help.

I knew of the VW - Seat connection, but didn't ralize they also utilized Audi stock for their vehicles.

BTW, that last one I did was a '67 Mazda Luce.

    Here's the next one.......

Sorry Fox (OMG where is my Harrap's dictionary?), Seat is a Spanish company and Spain is in the South of Europe.
