i am no longer a pet owner. my dog of 17 yrs past away tonight. it was a tough day to day. when I first woke up, we find my lab had some how got into one of the bed rooms and shut the door behind him. there was poop every where and also there was vomit with some blood. when he went out side, he walked around like he didn’t know what he was doing. walking one way, then stop turn around and walk the other way. back and forth he did this. so even if it was my only day off. I stayed inside to keep a eye on him. about 6 pm he was sleeping, so I sneak out to the therapy room to reinstall the Buick rear axle. when I came in at 830 pm, he was still laying in the same spot. shortly after my shower. bisque was moving like he was trying to get up but his back legs just wouldn’t move like normal, after about 30 minutes of doing this. I went over to see what was going on. he was breathing like he just ran a marathon. his heart was racing and he was patting like crazy.I pick up the phone and called the vet. there after hours phone was sending me to another vet that had after hours vet. it like WTF. any way, I call them and was told to bring him in. so I had to get dress and bring the truck over to the house and load bisque in. by the time we got to the vet, bisque wasn’t patting any more but his heart beat wasn’t normal. I took him in and told them what had happen that day. the vet doesn’t even look at my dog and says sound like a heart attack. we would have to keep him over night to run test but it not going to look good for him. so tonight I had to choose to put my dog down. as I’m ready to leave I’m told that will be $230.50. hell I almost had heart attack. I was there only 37 minutes and the bill was $230.50. I know this is not the way I should be telling you all but I had to vent ,so guess you’re the victims tonight also.
I feel for you, sounds like your a good guy who gave him a great life, for him in return to be your friend for so long. Take care Bud
My condolences on your loss. We've got four dogs, and two of them are getting up there. Still, even when you know they've had a good long life, it's a body blow when it comes. Hang in there.
Sorry to hear about the loss of your family member...17yrs. that's a great long life for a lab about 119 people years. Hey...what was the funniest think he ever did?
Thats a good long life for a dog. Sorry for your loss, dogs really do become "little people" after spending years with them.
We become attached to our pets. I've not been too much of a pet lover, but my wife and I had 2 cats, Coke and Pepsi, since they were kittens. They were brothers, and they played so well together we couldn't bear to separate them. We had them 13 years, but toward the end Pepsi got really skinny and would throw up everything he ate. After a couple trips to the vet, we found out he had cancer. Rather than let him suffer through it, we decided to put him down. My wife and I cried when he went limp. My bill from the vet was almost as much as yours. But I look at it as saving him from suffering. I know how you feel. The loss is very real, and you'll be in my prayers tonight.
Dogs get old and usually go before we do and it's always difficult. But, remember all the years when he was younger and gave you so much joy, ranch. Nothing better than a loyal dog to help make your day and I'm sure he did that for you. Remember the good times.
Sorry for your loss rancheronut, I lost my dog 25 years ago and still often think of all the good times we shared and the joy he brought into my life.
