Hey there, I just found the fourm and 3 weeks ago bought a 1962 Dodge Dart 440 wagon. An early B-Body wagon is something I have wanted since I was a kid and a '62 Dart wagon is about as "odd" a wagon as you can get! This old wagon is "odd" in the options and how it was ordered; It's a 361HP 4bbl, dual exhaust, sure grip 3:23 rear with A/C, PS, PB, PW, Light group, bumper guards, 9 passenger(3rd seat), and a lot of other options! The other "odd" thing about this old wagon is it is white and has an Emerald Green mono-tone interior that as far as I can tell was only an option on a Polara 500.(If anyone knows, please let me know!) The really nice thing about the old wagon is (good or bad!) it had been sitting in a heated garage and not driven since 1971!!! As of this last weekend the wagon runs and drives very well, it does need quite a bit of work yet, but I will be cruzing it with "patina" until I get around to repainting. Good to be here!
MoPower. Passenger Side unearthed, OMG The nerve ah some peoplez kidz Lookz like no perminant dammage waz done tho'I saw ah 426 4 spd.'69 Datona like that one time. My pocketz weren't deep enough back in 1980 to rescue itIn retrospect, I shoulda put ah 2nd mortgaged on the Ponderosa Have fun here and enjoy the ride, We doez
Welcome mopo! Love your '62 Dart wagon! That has got to be rare as hen's teeth! And with those incredible options, one of a kind! Mopics...mopics...mopics!!! David
Killer Ad!!! Thanks for the responses! It is definately an "Odd Duck" as far as any old car goes, as I am sure everyone knows these '62's were an udder flop for Chrysler because of management trying to beat Chevrolet to the punch on a "smaller full size platform" in late 1961. Big mistake, but we Mopar lovers got a crap-load of KILLER B-Bodies out of the mess! The old Dart is in better shape in many ways than I ever expected, but still has it's issues. (None that won't be concoured with enough time and money!) Thanks again David for the complete add! I have only looked at the cover in pictures. Thanks again everyone, it's good to be here and I will post more pics as the Odd Duck unfolds. P.S. just finished the headliner and sunvisors today, pretty happy with the outcome for my first time! (Although when it's in strips it's fairly straight foward!)
Welcome! That is a rare Mopar wagon with the luxury options it has. 9 passenger,p.windows,p.seat,p.steering,brakes,a/c,..did I miss anything? It is almost like they wanted a Town and Country--but in a smaller package.. The drivetrain combo-believe it or not-is a rare combo as well since most were Poly 318 with three on da tree or pushbutton auto. They were very popular when new,but now when do you see one?? With a face only Millhouse mother would love,LOL!! Very cool ride!
Love your 62! What a cool "barn find" I am the former owner of 62 Savoy, so I do have a special appreciation for the ugly duckling year. I like how you're just cleaning it up but maintaining its originality. Its only original once.
It's really good to hear others that understand that after all of the paint, chrome, trim and interior is refinished or restored to as new condition or better it will loose the originality and there is no way to to ever restore that! It's not that the car is a true "survivor" but it does have enough personality that I am looking forward to enjoying it as it is other than addressing issues like drivability, safty or just things that are grossly in need of referbishing.
Your drawing is awesome,Mark,LOL!! Azblackhemi (Chris) had a 62 Dart wagon and I nicknamed it Milhouse and it stuck--even when he sold it! LOL!! To the OP,the 9 passenger Dart 440 wagon was the top line wagon model, and Polara was not available as a wagon. It may have been possible the Polara interior color was available and was ordered by the original owner. Back then anything was possible as long you had the money and check the appropiate boxes on the order sheet. Unlike today where you have to buy a "package" to get one thing you really like.
