I had only today off this week. when I got off work yesterday at 4 p.m. my big plan was to finish stripping the 1985 caprice. so I could get it and the trailer it on, out of my therapy room that night. then hit is hard on getting the drive train swapped out of uncle buck on Sunday. I get home, while fixing dinner. I get a call from the wife saying she coming over to visit. well so much for working in the therapy room Saturday night. then I figure, I would get up early Sunday and do everything in one day. well Sunday morning I woke up at 10 am. I guess I stay up to late with the wife Saturday night. by 11 am I’m working on getting the caprice stripped and out of the shop, then see how the rest off the day go’s. by 1 pm, I’m ready to move my 1995 F250 truck from the big shop and move this trailer. THEN I GET TO THINKING. if I back uncle buck over in front of my sons car. then pull the trailer out of the shop and park it in the the street. I could then roll the 1984 little LTD wagon out from under the bunk bed and park it where uncle buck was parked. then back uncle buck into the bay of the therapy room. back the truck and trailer in front of that bay. good plan right? well when I moved uncle buck in front of my boys stang, I some how put a hole in the side wall, now it leaking air plus the battery in the car didn’t want to restart the car after it dies in the street . now I’m blocking the complete road with the truck/ trailer/ and uncle buck. after getting the little LTD parked where I wanted it. I had to run a air hose out to the Buick because now the tire flat.after charging the battery, we got the Buick to restarted and back into the shop and the trailer parked where it need to be. well now it 4 pm and I’m thinking I will just swap that caprice rear end with the 3.73 gears into the Buick and call it good. well that was the plan. after getting the front of the Buick on ramps. we go around to raise the back, so to swap the rear’s ends.as we get the rear up, we find out the Buick was 2 inch to far back and would not clear the bunk bed. so undo every thing to move car forwards 3 inch’s and reinstall front ramps, re jack up the rear high enough so to pull the rear out of the Buick and get the 3.73 caprice rear end in. the Buick still had really good control arm and bushings, so I wanted move the caprice rear sway bar over. well that went just as easy as everything else has so far. took 30 minutes just to swap that over. as I’m bolting up the parking brake cable and call the rear end installed. when I look up and see the tires are just barely rubbing on the inside body of the wagon. what the fXXX. out come’s the tape measure. after 15 minute, I found out the Buick rear axle is 1.5’ inch longer from the lower control arm bracket to backing plate on each side than the caprice axle, by this time it 9 pm. I get up walk out side and unhook the truck from the trailer and park F250 inside the big shop because if this how the Buick going to be. then there no way I going to haul the caprice to the scrap yard in the morning.I better just keep it where it at just incase Buick scrap metal need to be loaded. like I said, some days it just don’t pay to get out of bed and to think people tell me why work on fords when GM are so easy to work on.
so the inside if the tire is rubbing??? Just grab some wheel spacers and install longer studs if need be. Not allot of money or work. Sounds like it went easy, been sitin on a posi for mine for 2 years now. As Im expecting to need to replace everything and have everything go wrong Not a sat swap.
EASY??? as long as it took, i felt like i was just spinning my wheels. it should not take me 5 hrs swap rear end or 4 hrs to move 3 cars around the yard.
Some days are like that ... the good thing it is usually followed by two very great days...at least you spent a nice evening with your wife...right?
wife was great and i was told by the boss, i had tomorrow off. hopefully it works better for me and that Buick.
I didn't want to get out of bed today after I went to leave for work. Starter went on my truck.... My buddy gave me a ride to work, to my parents to get my tools, then back to my house, then decided he would drop the starter for me. Now, I gotta put a new one in before work tomorrow.
tonight I went out at 9 pm and work for a hour. I have the exhaust unhook, the cross member unbolted, the shifter linkage unhooked, the engine mount unhooked and the radiator pissing in a bucket for the night. I got every thing on the under side undone except the fuel lines. have the front of the car off the ramps and on jack stands, so tomorrow I can start pulling every thing from the top side. look forwards to having the 350/7004R in the Buick tomorrow about noon. at least this caprice still like me but that Buick act to much like my former wife. probably because the caprice is being a stripper and the Buick is to busy trying to look nice for the natives.
so much for getting out early to work on the buick because the kitchen was screaming louder, so i have to clean it first. I think the kitchen was getting jealous because for the last 3 weeks, I been out cleaning the therapy room and not spending any me time together.
after spending most of the morning cleaning house, I did get the caprice hauled to the scrape yard along with a 307 old engine and 255 V-8 ford.$235.00 for 3400 lbs , not bad. when I got home .i got a phone call saying, that if you are off today. we are was having a anniversary party for mom and dad. so most of the evening was doing that. after I got home and loaded uncle buck onto the trailer and back the trailer into my therapy room. that way I can take it to the car wash and clean up the engine bay before I install the 350/700-4R. hope fully the weather stay in the 40 this week so I can get that done before my Sunday/monday day off.
