Hope all had a wonderful Thanksgiving and are ready and rearing for a joyous Christmas season. I've not been on in a while as work and family have prioritized my life of late. To make up for that, in part, I've posted a few more wagon drawings, a sample of which I've attached here, with more to come soon... We'll my 16 year old son, Ian, who's only real concern has been an MP3 adaptable stereo head unit, has become the primary driver of my 1990 Buick wagon. Tasked with the duty of getting his brother and sisters safely to and from school, a few blocks from the house. The first day, one of his class mates stood beside him in the parking lot and said, "Well, it's official, ... you have the coolest car in school." That, in spite of it's flaky wood decals and pillowy, make that, droopy, headliner. It made my day. The past couple days, he's experienced snow and ice for the first time. I've been praying... Now, I have a question for the audio experts: The stock AM/FM/cassette stereo works as long as I don't try to use the cassette player. Oops! too late, MP3 adaptor discovered the eject button doesn't work and the thing appears to have never been de-magnetized. At issue? A permanently engaged cassette player and, as a result, no stereo. Anyone else dealt with this? I'm not sure I can fix it and am afraid to damage it worse. Here's a very quick sketch I did on my graphics pad, very loose and very quick (I may have posted it before)
Can't help you on the GM deck, but those sketches in your gallery are AWESOME! An auto-electric radio shop can demag them though.
You should be able to find a replacement radio/cassette for $20. I don't know how you would get the adapter out without perhaps destroying the radio. And I doubt you'll find a head demagnetizer at a car audio shop unless it's been in business for 30 years.... Head demagnetizers also come in a cassette form factor, I have one.
You're right Andy. Just found a couple items on them. Might need to borrow yours in the Spring. Further down the page: http://www.amazon.com/Maxell-Cassette-Head-Cleaner-Demagnetizer/dp/B000001OMF and a how to: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20071121140258AAZcdN3
Thanks Andy, I also have a cassette head cleaner,... somewhere,... They work pretty well. I'll do a search for parts and the radio will be near the top of the list. Electric window switch unit for the driver side is first. Thanks Norman, I'll follow up on your suggestion as well, thanks for the comments on the art, too.
Bad switch or wiring? Here's a member who fiddled with the wiring and found the problem (Cyber-Wizard) in his 1994 Buick. http://www.stationwagonforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11774&page=5
It does my heart good to find out that teenagers are finally starting to see the "coolness" of wagons. Restores my faith in that generation!!
Brittle plastic... The chrome switches are breaking off at the base and the plastic that one of the mounting screws uses to secure the unit in place went kaputski. The wiring (perhaps lubrication?) Is causing all the windows to lift very slowly tho, esp. the rear window... snooterbuckets, I agree, tho Ian and his siblings have been raised with an appreciation for family, values, and hopefully, ethics. He was very excited about the prospects of driving the wagon, even tho there's a pretty sweet '69 Pontiac convertible sitting in the garage.) He calls the Buick the "Swaggin' Wagon" (I nixed his choice of "the Shaggin' Wagon" as did he once it was explained what the term meant. Guess it wasn't clearly defined enough in "Austin Powers" for him. Whether he was feigning naivety or not, I don't care, the point is, he understands how reputations, good or bad, are created.) I guess my moniker, "The Queen Mary III" just isn't cool enough.
Brittle plastic, huh? Sounds like you need replacements from Oregon or Washington, one of the cloudier states. Sun-baking regions don't play well with plastic. Mine comes from Mexico, and it was a challenge for interior trim parts. Even here, we have intense sun, and you can see the effect it has on plastic.
When I was in High School, I drove my Caprice, and on occasion there was a blue 77 Squire, with a 460 and an 8-track player and such that was driven to school. I thought that Squire was so cool. High School kids don't usually appreciate wagons, but there was a good amount of people who just thought my wagon was cool. I still get asked about it and it hasn't been on the road in almost a year. Ironically, I ended up trying to buy that squire from a local yard for 900 bucks, but someone beat me out of it.
when i was in school most people where i lived had jacked up pickups or hondas. there were actually NO wagons apart from my cherokee. i remember the three oddball, cool, cars were chuck sable's AMC Matador. Kim Cane's 65' IH Scout I and one girl had an MG Midget. and this was the late 90's!
My graduating class was 2009 lol. Haha, even now, every one of my friends, and myself, drive pickups. They love 'em, and I just have one because they don't make Suburbans I like anymore, and I'm not big on Blazers or Jimmy's and need 4x4 for Wisconsin winters.
Thats a quick sketch? You have talent! I can't even draw a stick person much less a rendering like that....very cool!
