A station wagon friend just showed me to this site today ... now here's a circle I can relate to! I've restored several wagons, all Ford Falcons. My present ride is a '65 2-door wagon, factory V8, PB, PS, C4 auto car. I'll try to post a picture or two in the gallery. What a diversity of wagon interests here, I'm already lovin' it! I'm going to surf some of the various posts a bit and get acquainted, then I've got a question or two for you good folks. Thanks for having me!
Welcome, Norm! Hope you'll like it here. We like you already with your '65 Falcon 2-door. You're not the first here with one of those. San Clemente is a great area for seeing some old wagons, down by the highway (lived in OC until last year..) Marshall
Welcome Norm! I've got an alter ego! Feels like Xmas! Here's the Pic Stickies: http://www.stationwagonforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=19 We even like the same colours! My great uncle was in the Oil boom in California. Wonder if we're related... Anyway, we do need a pixel fix.
Norm, thats a stunning example you have I guess we need to refer to Norm as Storm from now on, eh Norm?
Well, FT, all of that's very entertaining, but what REALLY caught my eye was your Fairmont Squire ... no kidding?
Our posts must've been cross-firing, because I missed all the pics yesterday. Son of a gun, that's a beauty! Of course, the color just makes these mid-size Fords just glimmer and shimmer, don't you know! Since the first Mustangs were based on the Falcon/Comet platform, and the newer Mustang/Capris were based on Fox platforms, our wagons are cousins! I roller painted mine and replaced the woodgrain, then I swapped out the 302 for the 200 I6, then I replaced/updated the interior a couple times, and finally, this summer, I swapped most of the interior for a Mustang/Capri interior. Oh yeah, and a upgraded and modified the speakers with Lincoln Premium Sound speakers, and a 1984 Cougar AM/FM/Cassette Premium sound deck (perfect fit). http://www.stationwagonforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=711 http://www.stationwagonforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8926&page=43 If I could get one, next year, I'd throw in a 2.3L Turbo system on the I6. She's all stock, and recently rebuilt by a top Ford Dealership, and she's peppy enough on the bottom end, but she needs some torque at highway speeds.
Well cared-for, lots of character, beauty from ashes ... what restoration is all about, right Stormin? Not to mention, I'm sure your Fremont is truly thankful for the hand of its loving master this week, especially. I agree with you on the aspect of the vintage colors. My wagon, eg., was repainted its original bronze color, which was quite popular in '65. However, with the one-stage paint formulas, this color was one of the first ones to oxidize severely, turning to a hideous brown over time. Of course, no one repainted their Ford this color, so Prairie Bronze got lost and forgotten after a decade or two. To bring this color back with a base/clear PPG application was, indeed, sweet. When in the direct sunlight, it looks like a new penny. Some have nicknamed the car, "Coppertone."
Boy, she's beauty, Norm. Sort of rare having the V8 / C4 with the base trim. I've always loved those copper colors. Don't know why they arn't more popular. I'm wondering if that's the same color that Dr. B. Smith has on his '67 Country Squire that he's restoring. (Check out his long thread in the 'projects' section...) Seems to me his looks a shade or two darker.
