Quick question about the rear window motor on my 67 Squire. My son has been driving it, thought it looked like a Hearse for Halloween, and told me the rear window need help rolling up and down now. Is this something that happens alot in these old wagons? If so point me in the direction of what to look for when I et home, a gear, rollers, etc. He said the motor works, you just have to hepl it up and down now.
Either the tracks are dry or the guides are worn or misaligned. White Grease/Lubriplate the arms and tracks, spray silicone spray on the guides and probably, find new glides.
If all moves free and its not a juice problem from corrored wiring, when electric motors lose umph, its worn brushes, easy fix for the semi skilled if ya can't afford or find new. Brushes are very soft, buy some cheap ones for anything, then file them to shape.
350x is right. I'm pretty sure the tailgate motors are very similar to the power windows. Try to get a look or picture of it and get one from a rear door (not used as much). They haven't changed much up to about 1989, for sure. The brushes would work too. If you've got some 220 grit paper, you can clean up the armature if its not too badly gouged or grooved. If the separations are still well defined, you can mount the armature in a drillpress and smooth out the armature that way too with a fine oilcloth sandpaper - the finer the better. Fine (0-0-0 grade) steel wool works too. Remember to put some white grease inside the gear drive.
I talked with my son and the motor is working. He can hear it running and when he puts force on the top of it, as long he keeps it there, it will roll down all the way. When he rolls it up, it will come up about 3in and then he has to pull on it for the motor to bring it all the way up. With this info I would think it would be in the track, gears or slides. Let me know what anyone else is thinking. Thanks
I had a similar thing with my '73 Squire. It was just the three plastic bushings that go around the main drive gear on the motor. If you have some play in your window when you try moving it up or down by hand(without motor assistance) that's probably what it was. Not sure if '67 had the same motor as the '73, but I bought some '79 Bronco bushings for 99 cents and it worked great.
