IMO they did what history has proved when it comes to lower income familys who pay the most in taxes, keep them poor. In the very begining of this latest crush it program it was stated in the news and some magazines that by getting rid of older cars, some of witch are in fine working condition it will leave lower income familys in a spot where they cannot aford a car perioud or will have to titen there $ because they will have to pay more or get into more dept just to have a car.

Yes, the good cars could have been saved. Auctions comes to mind a good way to make revinew and if nobody wanted it after, then crush it.:yup:

No Offence intended :)beerchug:) but B - SH**! I'm sure theres 50 people against 1 who would deem the red wagon you have for sale as "Crush it, should'nt be on the road POS" as a example. I'd bet if you went to work after your days off and saw your red wagon demo derbied in the yard by your work friends you would have a different opinion.

I will agree that what part of the country you live in would make a difference in "take it off the road". Is it a rusted death trap etc. There are still car dealers here where I live who have dumpsters in front full of cars and they get there crush it trade ins. Just a year ago there were nice older cars, some of I know for a fact were taken care of fully road worthy crushed because they could get more for the scrap it program than sell it privetly. I still drive into these lots just to look at whats getting crushed and talking with a couple salesmen they tell me that maybe 1 out of 10 cars is not really road worthy and it's those ones that get the least trade in value they tell me. A year later, nothing old but cars that IMO are a who cares car, 5-10 year old FWD boring cars.

Not everybody are as passionate about cars as all of us here on this forum.
But you cannot save them all.
To some people,a vehicle is just another disposable expense.
Today's cars are getting closer to being like TV sets---cheaper in the long run to replace than repair.
I have worked in different aspects of the auto industry and it pains me to see perfectly good used cars wasted--but there is nothing you can do about it.
It took me a good while to separate my passion from the principal--even if I do not agree with it.
Governments have been in the car business longer than you may know.
Now with the government owning the majority of the domestic auto manufacturers, they are again messing with it.
Maybe the governments should be in the scrap metal business and repay the deficit by selling all the scrap to China..

That is how I read the bill too and I read all of it.
A problem I encountered was the wrecker didn't understand the bill and was terrified to so much as sell a hubcap for fear of the federales knocking at the door.
They don't know I know but the particular place I offered to buy some parts from is well familiar with law enforcement types so gun shy when a stranger asks them to do what they perceive as breaking the rules.
The CFC program was a success in it's mission, however foolish and misguided.

Okay, so you're saying that the mid 80's ford one ton that worked on a farm every day of its life and was litereally falling apart should have been saved? The early 90's cheroky that was running, but just, should have been saved? The mid 80's GMC truck with no reverse and the paneles all dented should have been saved? What about the 80's Astro van that smelt like they let their wet dog live in it for the last six years? I could go on.

Oh yeah, all of these cars were 100% rust free! Even that 86 Land Cruiser. a FJ60 fan from up north would have killed for it. I am sure its a pancake now.

Yup....and there were thousands of others just like it, Tom. All done with OUR money. I like cars to reach attrition on their own and go to rest in the yard and give parts back to good runners of the same model. Rendering them useless and crushing them with our money is something we should never have allowed.

I completely agree. I personally didn't allow it, I vote Republican! This is a free country, look at the list of cars I drive, all pump suckers, and that's my right as an American.
