I got a 302 motor out of my brother's wrecked Mustang (long story). My brother just bought an 88 Mustang GT and had a mechanic friend fix the loose shifter. Well, the idiot drank a beer or two whle working on it, took it for a drive, lost control and rolled the car. Believe me, my brother was pi***d when he got to the scene. So, the guy paid my brother for the car, and my brother got to keep the car for parts. He just called me to see if I wanted anything, and I took the engine/trans, front seats and a few misc things. Anything else I should get from him?
Yeah, the instrument panel, console and ebrake, AND the ebrake tunnel. Piece of cake to install. Map light, AMP? Rear wiper, if any, rear deicer if any and switches/relays, and wiring harness front to back, plus any manuals he has. Your brother will drool all over the result. And with a newer EFI V8 and trans. OMG!!! You'll drool too! Generous brother. Bad break for him, but look at my Interior Mustang Mods thread. You'll never part with that wagon, after that. If the seats are any good, and if it's a hatchback, change the rear fold-down seat backs. That is so handy. Aren't you glad you asked?
Pretty much everything I would take from it although it would be cool to take the front hubs and rear diff and use his tires or something... Did you take the computer too?
bulbs, fuses, switches, relays, knobs, locks, handles, doam light, covers, stuff under the dash dunno how many time odd n ends like that that I took out of a car came in handy years later. Take a 5gal bucket n fill it with stuff.
He needs that just for the harness! Hard to believe how much wiring is those little beggers. And the RAD and Heater Core and AC Condenser, Dryer, compressor. Let me make it simple, everything except the headlights and taillights, and the roof of course! 350 is right, those little parts add up real quick.
Drg Rcr, I've got a V8 K-member that'll fit yours. My car came with the 302 V8. His should fit, and you'll need the tranny crossmember too. Ebrake cables, if they're any good. Rear Disc brakes? The rearend might fit, but you'd be buying hardware to mount it. Extra control arms, and new bushings, springs, shocks, etc. Check the front swaybar. I think it's thicker than a smaller engined wagon. Mine's 1-1/8th diameter, the old donor sedan was 1" diam, and I thing the GT mustangs were 1-1/6th diam.
I was over on the Four-Eyed Fox site yesterday, and who do I find with hints of 'upgrading' his Fairmont Wagon? Disussing consoles, before I even got parts? Disc brakes from a Mustang? and of course a V8 transplant, if not HIMSELF the Drg_Rcr! What a stroke of luck. I'd love to see pics of the Mustang roof and the horn, after he's done pickin' it clean, because that thing will get a new host body.
When I ran my Technology brokerage in the mid/late 80s, we did a lot of Patent and Trademark searches. One thing that often came up, were two or more unrelated, disconnected, and often distant simultaneous inventions, filed in theri own countries, unknown to the other! Maybe I picked up on his plans for a console? I'm just searching on the Foureyed Forum for ebrake, on non-Mustang/Capri foxes - Fairmont/Zephyr/LTD/TBird. etc, 1978-1986. Zip?!?! None have done it. Thought about it, but never went ahead with it. My Voltmeter and Vacuum gauge sit real pretty, where the pedal brake was. I'll have to get extra window glass, in case somebody tries to jack it away.
I'm on the 4-eye sight as well, those guys have a lot of good ideas!! Remember, most of those neat Mustang bolt-ons and mods will fit the Fairmont/Zephyr. The only problem is, there's too many ideas, and I can't decide which mods to do first.
