IMO those are just as much a station wagon as any station wagon. That's what they were designed to do in 1936 and they still do it now. Back then (when the "advance design" trucks were designed) they were used to tow 28' Airstreams with that six banger and haul the family too.

I'm not a fan of the slammed lowered look but I'd have a 'burb in a heartbeat. I especially like the 73's.

I agree TB. I'm lusting after a 60-66. I intend to find the right one and ensure it's a wagon - but to tow a slightly larger Airstream than my current one. But IMHO, they are as wagon as many other things that are thought to be by the mainstream.

I love the look of the '60-'66 Chevy P/U's and Suburbans, but as far as owning one, I'd be a bit put off by the (only) 2 doors. Too bad they didn't have a 4-door version of them. ( Heck, even the '67 - '72's only had 3 doors...)

Having only two doors now on the wagon we've gotten used to it. Originally we wondered about how it would work but over 30 years we've found that it is seldom, if ever, been an issue. OK, one instance - friends used it for their wedding car and she couldn't get in to the back in her wedding dress so instead the best man and lady - what ever they call them - best broad? or best lady? - whatever - rode in the back, and the groom drove . I actually thought it was a better situation anyhow .

But yeah, a four door version would be a nice piece to have. The 68-72 3 door is an attactive option. Just spied one, needs some accident repair but otherwise looks decent, that's on CL I may have to phone about.

As they say two each his own.Back in the 40s and 50s the Burbs were also equiped with a third row seat. The passenger seat actully sat lower and flipped forward for easier access.I built mine to flip also, so not bad to get in.Head room a plenty.I was tell my wife last night how that no wind noise with both windows down and the vent open.I guess its because of the wide tall design?
Anyway, the wagon craze is here and go to any Good Guys events and people flock around them? I remember setting backwards in one when I was a kid.

Lots of them around here and Saskatchewan. Mennonite and Hutterite farms use them all the time. They don't mistreat them either.

I've got a couple of buddies with them in WA state and they are always on the look out if nothing else to see what they are selling for. I'd best ask them to keep an eye open for a really good one for me. Hadn't thought about that - was more thinking to surprise them but then I might miss just the right one.

I've allways considerd Burbs a station wagon, and why not? They were the heavy duty wagon made to haul people and then some. :yup:

Great to get comments from fellow long roofs.
I drove mine this weekend and have other things I want to do to it.
I have upolstered my last two hot rods and will be making the headliner for the burb next week. I have a photo bucket link if I can figure out where to put it in my posts?

i like the slammed look on that burb(could be worse, could have some ugly 20" rims on it), there's a guy here in town where i live that has a 1960 chevy brookwood wagon slammed to the ground and i think it looks pretty darn sexy sittin that low. i got some pics of this brookwood i speak of i just have to get them off my phone.
