I think this car was mentioned here after it showed up on eBay awhile back. I thought there was some mention about if it was made up or an actual production car. I found this ad which appears to show it was a real car offered by a customizing company. It must have been a very limited production...seriously who would buy one of these things!

They did conversion on big cars, a wagon would be more logical.

Sidemount spares are not new, but never have there been spares mounted aft of the rear wheels. Until now. Truely bizzzarre!

Yeah, I know about the Chrysler wagons that put the spare tire access from the outside instead of conventionally from the inside, and there was probably someting from Madman Muntz that did this, but you know what I mean!

That, absolutely, is the ugliest Buick I've ever seen. To be honest, I find myself angry at the jerk who did it. It's gross. How can anyone think that looks good?

 

IIRC, there was a company that built that set up and it went up and down. When down it would lift the original wheel off the ground. I think it was for pulling or some such crazy idea.

 

I don't see a hitch on there anywhere, SF. I'm going to stop looking at it. I'm getting too mad!!

I just remember something about this unit but can't quite conjur the whole story in my mind. I'm almost positive it went up and down, though.

 

Its like a semi or dump truck with a extra axle, its kept in the up position until you need it load wise, then its lowered. Its kept up to save on fuel when not needed.

Though on big trucks its usually a 3rd axle, 1up for more load 2 down standard.

 

It makes no sense to me at all. I can't even imagine what the thinking was on that Buick.
