'67 Sportwagon 3rd row seat fit in '68 Tempest Wagon?

Yeah, that's why I'm asking...the GM A-body changed from 1967 to 1968; but I was thinking that the third seat well and assembly might have stayed the same.

Just take measurements to make sure it will square up.

 

The Sportwagon third seat faces forward, I don't think the '68 cargo floor area is the same anyway? I think the fuel tank is underneath on those so it has to be way different? But who knows?
There are structural sheet metal cross pieces that have to be changed to do that third seat in a Sportie or Vista 2 seater. If it were the same year and you had the donor parts it would work. The 3 seater Vista/Sportwagon has a split second seat that the right end folds forward on, they're 5 inches longer allowing for a big rear door and floor room for the third seat, and raised roof for access to the forward facing third seat.
There actually was a reason for the raised vista roof with the windows in back.
You're better off finding a regular '68-72 wagon rear facing third seat IMO, those are no big deal to install. The dimples for the mounting points and spot welds are on the sheet metal inner panels, even in the Vistas and Sportwagons that don't even use them. A body wagons have same cargo area from the C pillar back so anything from any GM wagon should work.

BlueVista is right. You're much better off finding a rear facing 3rd seat. I know the '67 Tempest has the gas tank under the rear instead of the fender, but am not positive on the '68. I think it moved to the fender but I don't know. The tank on a '68 is only interchangeable with mostly 68 and 69 models, (Chevelle, F85, tempest, and Buick Specials) so if anyone knows where they are on those it will help.

But overall, the Sportwagons and VC, have a lot more to them than their rear facing counterparts.

Also to note, my Hollander lists the Catalina and Bonneville with the 2 and 3 seat versions, but the 68 Tempest only lists one S.W. For the Bonnie and Cat, they break them out because they say that the quarters have slightly different floor pans for the 2 and 3 seat wagons. Does that mean that the '68 Tempest was only offered in a 2 seat wagon, or does it mean that the 2 and 3 seat wagons used the same quarters/floor pans? I don't know.

Anybody have a 3 seat '68 Tempest?

 

The gas tank in my 68 Sportwagon is in the rear quarter, not underneath.

I meant to say I can take some measurements for you if you'd like.

I also have a large storage compartment under the cargo floor in the back as well where I think the gas tank was in earlier years, but I'm not positive.

Not even close. The 67 flattop wagon has a 115" wheelbase. The 68 Sport Wagon has a 121" wheel base. The longer wheelbase in the Vista Cruiser and Sport Wagons was done to allow the third seat to face forward. Note also that the 64-67 cars are different from the 68-72 cars. Frames are narrower and wagon wheelbases are 1" different. The flattop 64-67 wagons used the 115" wheelbase, flattop 68-72 wagons used a 116" wheelbase. 64-67 Vista/Sport Wagons used a 120" wheelbase, 68-72 used the 121" wheelbase.

 

I appreciate all of the replies. It's now obvious that I can't pirate a forward facing 3rd seat from one of my '67 Sporties for my '68 Tempest flattop.

The question/quest is now for a rear facing 3rd row seat for my '68 flattop Tempest.
