so I brought my moms old 1966 meteor wagon home. But I have since learned that the passenger side frame rail is rotten. I hate to give up on this car. What other frames will work, does it have to be a wagon frame? John
I had to look it up to see whether a '66 Meteor was a mid-size or a big car. Turns out it's the 'big' model, like a U.S. Mercury Monterey. You should be able to use a frame out of any '66-68 big Ford or Mercury wagon. Maybe '65 as well, but I'm not sure on that. It needs to specifically be a wagon frame though.
If it is just the one frame rail that is shot, and the rest is solid, a good frame shop may be able to repair the existing frame. That may be a whole lot less work, too. One of my neighbours had frame rot in is 67 Galaxie. The repair was under $1,000, and was done in about a week.
I forgot to say, too, I'm glad you are not giving up on Mom's wagon. That is one rare beast you have there. I would hate to see it vanish. And that it not counting the sentimental value, either.
hope its not the one down here....cuz i already Licked it I answered your PM....but i'll throw it here too the frame in all the 66 -68 full size wagons are the same ....and apparently the cars are the same just minus 2 mounts...that can be added glad your gonna keep her...and i will pass along some words of wisdom from one of the local race car chassis builders... ...he said to me..." why would you do a swap when you can just build a new one for it?...a swap sounds like twice the work ! " ....I hate it when people make sense...
Rev it was in PG but I missed it, its gone. But I might have one up in my area, there is a hoarder in oliver that may have something. It would cost me more to build a frame as I would have to farm it out. Changing the frame is mostly labour, and I have lots of time......lol
one of the Oliver hoarders used to be on here all the time. ...hes got a bunch of stuff on CL if its the same fella...all hes got is a 'car' frame
