Wagons in vintage Street scenes

I don't know whats worse, the media just about parking on top of the victom laying on the street or the guys in white who I'm sure are the Ambulance drivers just standing there and staring....."yup, he's hurt, (other guy) "yup, shure looks like it...... Meanwhile KFWB are saying (notice news guy over the hood of police car),,,,wait, who cares what there condition is, let us get the camera shots we want. "this is Guy Smiley reporting live from KFWB......Hey Sherriff, Move your car, it's in the way........

 

I've done this many times. But in the late 70's through 1998.

Now the rest of the story:

This particular ship is the USS Oriskany. It's nickname was the "O risk your life" due to a deadly fire up forward when someone was getting flares out of a storage space and accidentally set it off, then threw it back in and closed the door instead of tossing it in the ocean off the coast of Vietnam. 44 were killed and six aircraft damaged or destroyed. It was decommisioned in 1975 and sunk 25 miles of Pensicola Florida as an artificial reef in 2006. The US government spent some $5 million + preparing the ship for sinking. It was a big to do for a while.

Adding to what Tedy commented, this looks like a typical pulblicity shot for the radio station. Back when this was taken, KFWB (AM 98 on your dial) was a 'pop' or rock and roll station in L.A. - the one I listened to as a young kid starting at about the age of 10 - which is what I was in late '61 (this shot probably taken late '61 or early '62...) Still remember the names of some of the DJ's. Interestingly, KFWB later went 'all news' when FM took over rock and roll radio.......

 

I sure hope it is (pulblicity shot). IMO if it is, they did do it with a damaged car? It's clearly a Buick, the hood is up, but the fender line vs the door is kinked, alot of efort for back then.
