    This is the "McKittrick Hotel", from my favorite movie of all time, "Vertigo".
    It was actually an 1880's mansion located at 1000 Gough and Eddy in San Francisco.

    This pic is a scene from the movie, as Jimmy Stewart/Scotty's DeSoto follows Kim Novac/Madeline's Jaguar
    as she is pulling up to the "McKittrick".

    The old mansion was cleaned up for the filming in 1957-8, but sadly, it was torn down in 1959, not long after the top photo was taken.
    The orange sign is probably the notice of demolition.
