    Strip Job? I am possitive back in the Regan/Bush seniour era seeing on TV White House "stuff" with the black fleet of cars and there were black no wood Ford and Merc wagons here and there.

    I have seen Merc wagons without the wood. My dad looked at one new back in 1988, but I believe it was a fleet car that never got picked up.

    I have seen them with out wood before also, it's the black on black witch is a WOW. Thats why I was thinking Goverment car, I've never seen a Black Colony Park with wood ever....never seem Black interiour either let alone black leather. I WANT this Merc:yup:

    Oh, Mercury definitely made them without the wood. I remember taking a blue one in trade around 1985. I found it interesting because without the wood on it, you could see the indentations for the Country Squire lights. The wood would hide them, but without, they were clearly visible. I searched high and low for a picture of the rear end of a Grand Marquis wagon and couldn't find one anywhere. I did find another pic of a Grand Marquis, however.
    Ah, darn. For some reason, it won't post. Sorry about that.

    Yeah, Snooter, I know exactly what you're talking about. The Squires have a narrow, vertical taillight, stuck in the end of the quarter panel. The Mercury's have a squat taillamp that wraps around the corner. Since they both use the same 'basic' quarter panel stamping, the Merc needs a 'filler piece' for where the top half of the Squire taillight would go....You don't notice on the 'woody' versions because the woodgrain and moldings cover it.

    hmmm maybe if i go to my moms ill stop to look....MAYBE. usually its just a big D---Tease for me because i could probably get enough from the shipwreck if i sold her right now to cover said wagon....but swmbo says NYET!
