Hey guys. Well, I have recently remarried. My wife had three of her own(7 yr old boy, 6 year old boy, and 4 year old girl) and I had a 4 yr old little girl. We could not all fit in either of our cars. She has a 2005 Mazda 6 and I have a 2001 Cobra Convertible. So we are both car lovers in general and I have wanted to build a pro-touring hotrod for some time. We decided an updated 60's wagon would be a far better family car for us then a modern minivan....it would be more fun and more affordable. In December, my daughter Adaleigh tragically passed away but we are still looking at wagons. We want Adaleigh to always have a place in the family car. Right now I am favoring the Chevy, Pontiac, Buick, Olds wagons since the plan is to put in a LSX and 6-speed and build a twin turbo setup. The ultimate goal is a wagon that will be a daily driver capable of making 1000hp when needed...limited to 500hp for normal use. I am still open to the right Ford, although I still plan to commit sacrilege by installing the chevy LSX combination in it as well...the LSX motor just has more potential for less money than a Ford motor. Anyway, I've frequented the site for a few months now and just now registered. Hope to show you my project soon. Glad to be here. Brad
Welcome Brad. Condolences for the loss of your daughter, Adalaigh. Great attitudes, thanks. Onward and upward. Now how do you tame a 1000 HP powerplant to 500 HP and still drive it?
Howdy, here's an article for inspiration. Aspiration? http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/engine/hrdp_0612_1740_hp_on_pump_gas/index.html
The magic of a turbo car....you can adjust the boost with the flick of a switch. You set up your fuel injection controller to have multiple boost curves based on the switch input. And yes, I've done it before. I had blower cars too....no comparison to the turbo.
Well, well, well. Sounds like we'll be in Turbo sync this year. I'm hoping to swap mine to a Turbo 2.3L Mustang/TBird setup. I'm a brain-picker, FYI!!
When I said I have done this....I have only done it once...but I was sold. I work for Honda Manufacturing of Alabama and started a racing team there. I built a Honda Odyssey(Yes, the minivan) with a forged rod and piston, darton sleeved 3.5 Odyssey shortblock. I built a single turbo setup using a Garrett ball bearing GT35R turbo. With the same turbo and just tuning it has ranged from 325whp/330ft-lbs(very conservative tune and 12psi) to now 532whp/464ft-lbs(still safe tune with 18psi) on what is normally a 245hp engine. The Odyssey was built for and competed in the One Lap of America for 3 years in a row. The hardest part was learning the tuning system(autronic). Once sized properly for the range of power you want, you won't even touch the turbo itself. So all that said, I'm ready to take what I've learned on the job and do it for myself.
dam...a man with a plan!!! sounds like you know what you want and are capable of doin it ...dont know about F+GM theory tho to the board...and good luck hunting ..my condolences.
First off let me say sorry for your loss. But welcome to the site, If we can be any help in finding a wagon for you let us know.
Thanks guys....I found one. Brought it home Wednesday night. Posted in the projects section....1968 Bel Air Wagon
