I had a complete set of spare floor rails so have them also on the floor itself. I still have easy access to my tire but it would be even easier if I hinged the lid so it went up. Stuff that slides forward to the back of the seat is a bugger to get at without crawling onto the tailgate right now. It sure did quiet the car a bunch. Even hung speakers off it underneath but that still needs some attention. I don't remember those seats but will start looking. I've got '67 T Bird buckets in it right now but have a set of '64 Chevelle buckets that need recovering that I was going to swap in onto the power seat bases. I am rethinking that at the moment, heck, my wife wants me to rething the whole interior and just get it done. We'll see. I might get distracted with another wagon:evilsmile:.

Stare at the screen until you go cross-eyed and drooling all over the keyboard, then ask her for a bib and some tissue while mumbling, waving and pointing at what you see!

She must be getting a chuckle at these posts. :yahoo:

She is NOT impressed that I'm thinking of adding to the herd at the moment. She wants the Chevelle done and driving and then the interior in the current Safari done - that will be a long thing as I'm not sure how I want it, but anyway. So when she sees me talking about another acquisition things get pretty quiet. Nice though if you get my drift.

Recall the VW Van engine lids? I'll bet that would be the cat's meow for the tire well cover. Any old Trunk spring bar could be modded for a pair of supports on either/both sides.

Open up a Chevelle Resto thread and get some input. Is it a wagon? If not, put it in the Lounge. Maybe we can help you fast-track it and free you up for the Safari tweaks?

You are right, I should post a few pics I guess. By next week we should be able to drive it out back, it is that close to being done. The following few weeks will be finishing it up.

Because bigger is NOT always better when it comes to exhaust.....depending upon horsepower and displacement, in many cases a smaller pipe will make the engine run BETTER, rather than worse.

As far as mufflers go, Flowmasters tend to be the loudest, sepending on the series.......the old 40 series and it's replacement, the super 44 series, both have alot of drone at highway speeds......the 50 series tend to be quieter. Magnaflow, Dynomax UltraFlo, SpinTech, and a few other companies make nice sounding mufflers that won't drone you out at highway speeds.

    Exhusting...At any speed ...I love irony !!!

I've read thru all the posts...Two things bother me...
Can you correct the computer if the o2 sensors arn't reading correctly???
Because, they are calculated for a certain flow of hot gas. Too much and they may throw a bunch of codes...And I'm not sure but that could put you in limp-in-mode(very little power).
And when you open out the pipes...you will loose some torque on the bottom end. And at a whopping 170 to 250 ponies, you'll need all the torque you can muster.
I changed out the exhust on the Bu, with the idea of a bigger engine later.
I love the Magnaflows, the sound is great and just the right amount of thunder...But now, it won't bark the tires off the line, but it does get to 60 a little quicker. I'd post the time but, I'm sensitive about being laughed at. We just got another 83, with the same 305, single pipe. My son and I were cutting up a little, and he took me bad to around 35mph., then I started pulling on him. Long story short, we went to 55 (and was holding up traffic), so I went ahead, and he backed down a little. The gears are the same and the tires are the same, and my Bu has 60k more miles on it than Blue hasand the same trannys.
Torque requires some backpressure, the ponies don't...
Some will argue, but I've seen it too many times.
Repair what you have then, go for the gusto...when time comes@!!!
A friend also has a stock 305, Flomasters, and big tips, he ended up putting resinators on it to quieten it down...Helped a little. But at about 45, he has to roll up his windows, just to hear himself think. And he isn't fond of the looks peeps give him when they have to ride along side of him. He gets the one finger salute daily, but at least it is better than without the resinators!
    Good Luck,
    Later,
    Bruce
