    Virus Alert - Important

HI ALL THIS was sent to me by our son who is in charge of the computers for the state of Florida -- whenever he receives anything like this it is a warning to the State as well as all us little people --
VERY IMPORTANT , PLEASE READ THIS
Anyone-using Internet mail such as Yahoo, Hotmail, AOL and so on. This information arrived this morning, Direct from both Microsoft and Norton Please send it to everybody you know who has Access to the Internet. You may receive an apparently harmless e-mail titled 'Mail Server Report' If you open either file, a message will appear on your screen saying: 'It is too late now, your life is no longer beautiful....'
Subsequently you will LOSE EVERYTHING IN YOUR PC, And the person who sent it to you will gain access to your Name, e-mail and password. This is a new virus which started to circulate on Saturday afternoon. AOL has already confirmed the severity, and the anti virus software's are not capable of destroying it.
The virus has been created by a hacker who calls himself 'life owner'.
PLEASE SEND A COPY OF THIS E-MAIL TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS, And ask them to PASS IT ON IMMEDIATELY!
THIS HAS BEEN CONFIRMED BY SNOPES.

Last month my laptop was hit with the "Internet Security 2010" virus & it was a nasty one. I wasted 2 days searching for a way to clear it out. Wound up having to get the hard drive wiped & the os reinstalled. :(

The guys that write these virus' are pretty clever, imagine what they could accomplish if they actually did something constructive with their skills?

You too? I had to rum my desktop in safe mode to get Malwarebytes to wipe it out so I could reinstall it. I just went and got a laptop and Malwarebytes was the first thing put on.

Malwarebytes is one of the best tools out there.
SpyBot Search and Destroy is the other that I use. It has an "imunization" function that will block a huge list of know malware sites, so that even if you get hit by the initial trojan, it won't be able to download the full malware package.

Safe mode isn't always good enough to get the job done.
For really nasty cases, I use a live CD with a bunch of AV/AM tools installed.
    Its called Ultimate Boot CD.

There are cases that trying to remove a virus/malware while Windows is running is like trying to change the lifters on a car while the engine is running.
It just doesn't work. With the live CD, your local windows install is not active and neither is the infection.

That's from 2 years ago, is going on again? I had the Anitvirus Live malware a couple weeks ago which I think is the same as the Internet Security 2010 malware. With the help of the internet it took me a few days to get it taken care of.
