From another forum. I will definately give it a try when confronted with rusty bolts / nuts.
Wonder what the purpose of acetone is in this mixture, since it will evaporate fast.
    Any comments, Norman??

I'm surprised to see so little difference between PB and WD40.
But I have a can of the Kroil stuff for the extreme cases.
Tranny fluid and acetone, eh?

Nice getting bigger muscles lol not always a good thing unless you have a older car I sometimes have a hard time reaching my forearms get in the way of stuff I usually have to get my skinny friends to help... I've been reading and I see that acetone is used to clean or clear rust and maybe the two together is like a one two double punch combo? Plus wouldn't they atf be thinner then?

Yeah I can see it thinning the ATF. Way back the "old school guys" always told me soak it in tranny juice...stuff works like a champ IMO.

Liquid Wrench beating WD-40, that is no suprise, I figured that one out in my teens when Liquid Wrench was yet not avalible in aerosol cans.....maybe thats why that crap (WD) became so famous...it was aerosol and more convenient because?

EDIT> Tranny Juice, In my teens I put Dad's utility trailer away and droped the hitch in mud and left it there over the winter. Come spring it was siezed, nothing worked to free it, till old school clued me in, I dropped the hitch in a deep pan of tranny juice and left it for a week soaking. The hitch worked like new after that.

I have used Coke for removing rust on chrome bumpers and wheels before. Also works great for cleaning residue off the windshield. Just makes sure you rinse it off well.

Yeah lol of course rinse off. I used atf and motor oil to soak my oem hydraulic roller lifters for the 350 and that was nice for break in. And I can't remember what other things I've let soaking in atf I think I had some seals or something one time I don't remember...

Funny thing with Coke, they must have changed the formula compared to 20ish years ago...now way it has the "bite" like it yoused too re- rust removal....or bettr yet but true, leaves your part a blob of rust pulp if you forgot about it for a few days:rofl:

ATF is the best and cheapest fuel injector and system cleaner you can find. Very high in dispersants, which act as a detergent. Just add a qt. to you tank as you fill it up.

Probably because they no longer add Cocaine to it, lol. That might cause it to loose some of its Bite.

Dad got close to the ATF-Acetone brew. He'd mix the old ATF with gasoline. If the bolts were really bad, he'd heat the nut first, with the torch, and then use the mix, let it sit, try again, and repeat if he had to, especially on our old junkyard cranes - big 1" diameter, high tensile bolts rust fast when they're exposed to the weather 24X7. On small bolts and even suspension bolts, it works like a charm. Gasoline has a lot of ketone chemistry like acetone.

I forgot all about that until you posted that.

Funny how we go backward for the future, huh? Thanks.
