I posted this on another forum for Mustang owners. Figured you guys might get a kick out of this.

I bought this '92 coupe model when I was about 11 or 12 years old. I had been building model cars since I was 6 years old. This is whats called a conversion kit. You could not buy these at K-Mart, Wal-Mart, or most hobby shops, this was mail order only.

This kit was based off the 1/24th scale 1992 Monogram Mustang GT drop top kit, these you could find localy. The coupe kit included a hardtop/coupe LX body (hatchback was available at the same dealer), interior tub, and rear "glass". The cost when new, $35 plus S&H made by All American Models (no longer business). Most you find on Ebay have gone for big dollars....pushing the $200 mark.

Well my skills were not up to par for a kit like that. Most, if not all aftermarket conversion kits use whats called resin plastic. There is a fair amount of prep work involved. The notchback had three colors on it, red, silver, and a God awful green (I was 12 remember). I never got past painting it. So there it sat, over 15 years unbuilt.

Now its going to be built. Its a little crude BUT, then again NO ONE had a notch conversion kit. Another company now makes one that has the correct trim, rear tail lamps (I have to make my own on this one), and better roofline.

I sprayed it with Easy Off Oven Cleaner: Heavy Duty for about 45 min. It stripped three layers of Testers paint. The red you see, are stains from the original red paint I started with in 1992.

I also found that I bought "10 hole" mags to go with the kit. Saddly, I am missing the hub covers that have "Ford" on it.
I would like to paint this black or a dark color BUT, there are SO many problems with this kit, I will just end up painting it Wimbeldon White with deep red interior.

I have taken the plunge and removed all the mid 80s trim. And applied the correct '90s trim to make it a "true" 1992 Mustang notchback LX.

Built models as a kid.......keep thinking about doing it again. I've got about 8 unbuilt kits, including a '65 Chevelle wagon. Nice Mustang. That would look good as a police persuit vehicle. I remember the California Highway Patrol had those. I'm pretty sure there's a company out there that makes the decals you would need.

Ah the smell of model glue. I built models from the age of 4 right up till a few years ago. I attended many model contest and own me a show box full of ribbons and trophys. If you need any advise or help, LMK. I will have to dig through my parts bins, I ''might" have the 10 hole wheels.

Here are a couple I have built.

Yeah, I think I built one of those Rivieras as well - one of my first models (back when it was new.....) IIRC, I painted it maroon. Came out pretty good. My painting left a lot to be desired.

HA HA HA, its cool. I still have my Dukes set from Ertl. Its got the boss hog '70 Coupe Deville drop top in white, the general lee, Daisys Jeep, and Rosco's police car.....mind you, they are VERY used.

I still have a majority of my toy cars as a kid. Now most of them are on display or packed.

Nice builds guys (both of you). I bult model cars lots as a kid then my teens set in and girls, real cars, being a single dad at a way to young agestopped me from modeling:rednose:. I had not touched a model in years till I broke my back and have a huge collection of built, half built, and unstarted kits...I was 'trained' how to walk after 2 years and again hav'nt touched a kit since. Was alot of fun I must admit.

I bout kits from Dennis @ Model Express, never emailed him just phoned. A really nice guy who is a people person not just in it for sales alone. He has a sweet 56 Chev Delivary.

The IH Scout has been reissued from AMT. Its a nice kit, goes well together.

I still have an original Ford F-150 flairside kit......its been on the "to build" list since I got it in 1992.......
