Fisrt off...this will all be going in my 91 caprice wagon

.....so I will be doing a swap in the near future....but I am wanting any advice you guys can give....

My first idea was go insane make something unique

I mean a LSX swap is nothing new to the automotive world, but I really wanted to swap in the 6-speed as well....I know the LS motors love the bottle and would be easy power if I every wanted to go that way...

BBBBUUUUTTTTT.....now I am re-thinking the whole idea....I think I just may want to have a good powered 350 that will get the big car out of it's own way

I have been looking and a carbed vortec seems like a good way to may good power and still have about the same MPG's that I am at right now....would be the cheapest Idea and a simple swap for the most part...

Here are some of my questions....the 700r4 trans.....how can i take that stupid lockout off...I am pretty sure if I go carb it will need to come off, and how much power can the 700 take?

OOORRR...do I just stick with a TBI setup and use everything, will it support 450 hp?? The carb I was going to run was a 750...I know there are companies out there that make performace TBI's but what I really have not decided which way to go

400 hp is the goal all NA if I can

next big question.....I NEED POSI!!! What is the best rear to run? I will prob switch over to a 3.73 gear.....maybe.....but I really need to get both wheels spinning....

other option is an LT1, but I figured if I save some money with the motor build I can get my interior done even sooner....

Any advice would rock my world....so thanks in advance :thumbs2:

NOTE....I will build everything before I drop in the 350, I really want to leave the 305 stock i mean it only has 56k, so i will cruise around with that for now.....I will be adding headers cause for my understanding should just switch right over....

I wanted to add my observations about CFI/TBI/TPI vs Carb.

    Carb:
    dirty
requires adjustment of choke, linkage, floats, choke pull down, idle mixture. etc, etc, etc.
    smelly
    fouled plugs
    fouled oil
    smelly
    leaking
    nasty
cussing, swearing, thrown tools, stress, stroke, heart attack.
    hesitation
    poor throttle response
waiting for warm up to actually drive
    poor idle
    flooding
    hard starting
    stalling
    dirty
    nasty
    smelly
    vabor lock
    carb freezing
sometimes hard to pass emissions tests. You think it's right, it's running good and blam...FAIL.

    :badwords::deadhorse::slap::(

    CFI/TBI/TPI:
    clean
    amost zero maintenance
no adjustments following initial set up
    no gas smells
    efficient
    no choke
99.99% of the time starting is no issue
    instant throttle response
    no hesitation
    smooth running
adjust performace via computer input, no wrenches, no screwdrivers, no stripped screws, no parts changing, no mess, no dirt, no smell, no thrown wrenches, no lost parts, no trial and error, no cussing swearing or high blood pressure, odds of failing emissions inspection is 1:10,000.
    clean
    clean
    clean
Instant start with no warmup to drive

    :thumbs2::clap::yahoo::party3::band::wow:

I'd take fuel injection any day over a carbed engine. Now you know how I feel about carbs.

Yeah I know all that.....I was just wondering if a TBI would be able to handle the power....no sense spending teh money building decent power then not giving it enough fuel up top....how does the TBI do around 6000?

I know fuel injection is way better, unless you are making huge power....but i figured if i could get away with not doing any major wiring changes it would not only save me money, but a lot of time.....not te mention the amount of beer I would drink running the new wires and ****

I'll bet another forum would know. There maybe bigger injectors for the TBI. I know really little about modifying injection systems. I just don't like carbs as I only have factory stock street cars. Even the 23 year old tbird with CFI, same as GM TBI still starts and runs great! My wife's 92 Tbird has TPI and has another 30 hp over the CFI 3.8.

Well I know for a fact that there are bigger TBI's out there, I mean the one from the 454 is a great add with a different intake, I just did not know the flow rate and all that good stuff there is not alot of info on the TBI, not a popular performance fuel injection system.

I know Holley used to make a performance one as well as a high rise intake for it.....I had it on my old 89 caprice, but never got it running all the way right....I was in HS and had no idea what I was doing at the time, heck I was still on the stock fuel pump trying to run a ZZ4 motor with a 150 shot.....haha.....stock trans and rear.....and well as you can idmagine I broke alot of stuff then sold the motor to a guy in cali for his vette that went 11.30's off the bottle

Been a long time since then!
