    Wow, its the same make and model I think is the red sports car I asked about in the Dealership Tread! Slightly different grill on this example.

    That is defiantly a later version as the original few did not have an opening trunk lid, and a different grill, plus a split windshield.

    Well, since we're showing a lot of old Volkswagens in this thread without their hubcaps, I'll ask a question of the group that I don't know the answer to.....

    What was the reason for the incredibly w-i-d-e spacing of the lug bolts/nuts on the early VW Beetles and busses?

    Early Porsches and my three-wheeler Piaggio Ape also used this pattern also. The latter, even to this day. They probably thought that they could end up with a stronger wheel, through distributing demanding forces onto the brake drum, while ending up with a lighter weight wheel. As soon as light-alloy wheels were made available, the disadvantage of wide-spacing became appearant.
    This all came to a stop, as soon as disc brakes entered the scene
