The 'story' I heard on this was that some major telephone company in the U.S. wanted a fleet of smaller work vans, and approached Chrysler Corp about buying 100 or so converted Valiants. So Chrysler / Plymouth sealed off the rear doors on a Valiant wagon, and installed a metal panel over where the glass would be. Many years later, a guy comes across this one sitting in a back yard (NOT looking like this, obviously), makes a deal, takes it home, and then resto-mods it......

I'm suspicious of the story.....
This is the ONLY Valiant panel I've ever seen pics of. There are NO pics on the internet of any other Valiant panel.

 

At first, I was thinking that this panel wagon was a do-it-yourselfer where someone sealed the rear door. That trim surrounding that blacked out where glass would otherwise have been somehow looks unoriginal.
Exner's unusual design talent seems to accomodate contemporary wheel designs pretty well, methinks

 

I think that's EXACTLY what this is. I think that story is just something that somebody (or the owner/builder) made up. Otherwise, there would at least be a few pics on the internet of a couple of these supposed 'fleet' of modified Valiants.

 

How about a three-toner

 

That's going to be a nice 63 Plymouth when they are finished restoring it.

 

I saw this Swedish meatball bopping down the highway the other day:



He obviously loves it, and for how old it is, it's in really good condition.

 

When or if? It's likely to end up a four-toner, if he doesen't get his bottom cleavage in gear

 

These were on the same yard, along with an older Chevy van and a very nice older Chevy PU.

I think that last one is a Mercury Montego, around a 1974-1976. (Mercury version of the Ford Torino / Gran Torino)
