Not at the asking price, which is a heart-stopping $33,000, but at what's been done to the interior. The sound system that has been installed is beyond the pale.

Unusual color for one of these. Silver Poly, according to the '77 Olds paint chart. Looks great on the outside.

The listing says 38,000 miles, but the odometer would seem to indicate that it's more like 106,000.

If you looked only at the left side of the dash, you'd say "what's the fuss?"

    photo31.jpg

But then you come to the right side of the dash all the way across the passenger side, and...well...the faint-of-heart are advised to avert their eyes.

    Toggle switches? Really???

I seem to recall that there was a glovebox and a clock in here somewhere. But no more.

The spare tire is gone to make room for all of the amplifiers.

Of course, to power all of this requires not just one, nor two, nor three, but apparently FOUR alternators (and four batteries). I can see three. The fourth one must be down below somewhere.

What are the doing? Communicating with the Voyager spacecraft?

    photo15.jpg

And, of course, the speakers and speaker placements have redefined the word "ugly."

There will be no storing of packages on the "package shelf!"

All together, it's enough to make a grown man cry.

Mommy, can I go home now?

Wow... 1995 called and wants their stereo system back... that's just hideous. I can't imagine the sound you'd get from 6 400W amplifiers would truly be something you'd want in a car driving around...

Hahaha, I actually think it’s cool! But for someone else to have…

el - I think that's older than '95. I'm gonna say mid to late 80s. That thing probably cranked back in the day. I'd like to check it out and see how it holds up now. I was a bit of an audiophile back then. I had holes in my socks and faded jeans, but boy I had some good stuff! Priorities.....probably like the guy who built this in 1986. Grew up to be a middle aged dude now. Probably was his pride and joy and he may have passed on.

Besides, it has "Diversity" on the head unit. Sony was way ahead of their time back then.

Ordinarily I'd agree, that equalizer setup is from ~1984, but the amps themselves are early '90s per Linear's website (they were smaller in the '80s). That Sony shaft tape deck is late '80s\very early '90s and the Sony CD player is probably 1992-1993 era. Just speculation going off my memory for seeing what I saw at the local audio stores when I was upgrading my cars back then.

That's some definitely vintage stuff, I saw guys in high school (mid-late '90s) do this exact type of thing in their cars. Never this wild, but definitely a LOT of hacking and replacement panels and toggle switches. I like how all 3 alternators on the driver's side have their own exciter lights just hanging out in the harness where you can see them. Those look to be CS-130 alternators too. Credit where credit is due, someone thought this system out considerably and put a lot of effort into it.

Yep, and this car was probably just an 8-10 year old used car back then. But being a collectible now it does make you cringe.

Wow. There isn’t an inch of that interior that hasn’t been defiled. Good luck with $33. The good news is you’ll be driving that car when you have a full fledged skullit. That popping noise could be your speakers or your knee replacements.

Audiophiles apparently don't care about vehicle esthetics - well, this one for sure doesn't. If I wanted a 'modern' head unit, I would have just gone with a late 80's/early 90's GM unit with a built-in CD changer, and then upgraded the speakers inside the STOCK enclosures (some metal trimming may have been required.)

Definitely cringe worthy. I wouldn't want that car at any cost now. I personally would stick with factory equipment upgrades. My latest dream car is a Mist Green '64 Imperial Crown 4 door on Fort Myers, FL Craigslist. It has radio delete, and NO air conditioning. None of my car airs work, so I'm used to it. I hate thinking the first thing most people would do to that Imperial is stuff a sound system into it, and cut holes in everything.
