Let me start this thread by saying I don't go to car shows or cruise in's with any expectations of winning any kind of award. I take it so people can see it and hopefully appreciate it for what it is, a 58 year old original. That being said I would like to tell you the story of how I won the trophy. I entered my longroof in the car show being held in my hometown of Shinglehouse Pa. (That's the elementary school I attended in the back ground) there was a grand total of 14 entries with 12 trophies up for grabs. The town was having their Summer Fun Festival in the park across the street with lots of activities for the young folks. I was getting a lot of visits from some of my school chums with their childern and grand children. This is when I started thinking I might have a chance of winning a trophy if I could convince all the kids to vote for me for the spectators award. So as I was talking to a handful of kids and their parents I made a innocent comment to the kids that if they voted for me and if I won I would buy them a ice cream cone and give them a ride in the wagon. Well the show was wraping up and the awards where being handed out and of course the spectators was the last to be given, low and behold I won. As they where telling my name and my wagons specifications I saw this mob of kids decending upon me, there was 14 of them. Now I had to hold up my end of the deal and pay up. So I PACKED them all into the wagon and off to the ice cream shop we went! Thankfully I knew the person working there and after explaining the reason as to why I had 14 kids in the wagon he gave me a small discount on the ice cream cones. The trophy is nice but all those smiling faces was priceless! Hope nobody fell asleep!

Very cool. Most, if not all, of those kids will remember this day.

Maybe you should go into politics. Buying votes seems to also work well there.

Yeah! Great story. What better way to use a wagon than hauling kids for ice cream?

I should get ahold of the kids parents and see if there's any pictures of all them packed into the wagon.

Well how about it Jeremiah? My wife and I never had any children of our own, MANY nephews and nieces though! It was a profound afternoon to say the least for myself.

Hahaha well, I have to admit that one of the primary functions of a station wagon (at least in my book) is as a mode of ice cream delivery.

Thanks for sharing the story wagoninsane. That was a day that will be long remembered by everyone involved. That's what life's all about right there.

Totally loved the story, made me laugh and hubby too. What a great day for you and your wagon. The trophy was nice but all those kids voting for was awesome. Then to have them all take you up on your offer was priceless...well except for the cost of all those cones.:biglaugh:

Hope the judges don't find out you bought those votes.

You do your Route 66 one day….. I’ll buy ice cream all the way around, and Caleb can even sit in the DFRS of the ‘71 Country Sedan and waive at everybody. Who cares if he’s 23. Lol. When I first got that car I had a friend drive me around and I had the back window down and waived. Wonder if anyone questioned a 43 year old guy waiving at them. Who cares it was a total trip down memory lane for me. Lol unfortunately no ice cream in hand. Still had fun!
