Well this is kinda like a Travels of the Fury post. I guess. Like with a business trip I took to Washington state a few years ago where I reached out to Jeremiah, and spent a wonderful day with he and his family going to car shows, and especially eating ice cream, I just had that same experience with member Jack Wagon in St.Louis. I was up for my sister and brother in laws 45 wedding anniversary, and their grandsons first birthday. But I digress. I sent Jack a private message and we arranged to meet at a local sweet shop for a pick up cars and coffee. It was a blast. There were a lot of neat cars and trucks and Jack showed up in his ‘58 DelRay. We sat and talked about the cars and life in general. It’s amazing what a wonderful thread the car hobby is. Having to cut my visit short we agreed to meet for Mexican lunch on Monday. Living in New Mexico I was a bit skeptical, but the food was wonderful. We had another great visit then it was off to Fast Lane to see the cars. The weekend was a whirlwind, and thank you Jack for being a part of it. 7F8F1C36-8BB6-4221-A702-2BAA1138F9AA.jpeg

Was that a “for sale sign” in the window?

Yes sir. For the princely sum of $39,000 this can be yours. I guess if this was your “have to” car, you couldn’t do a junker for that, but I’ve always found Fast Lane to be a bit ambitious in their pricing. The sign said “original “ interior. I’d have to do some research, plus I would run the vin and trim codes but the seat inserts had the branding iron pattern, which I believe was a Ranch Wagon interior. But I guess I’m over thinking. This is an eight passenger as you can tell by the Fairlane exterior trim. That Fairlane interior should have carried forward. The 6 passenger country sedans had the customline trim. I’ve seen some of those with Fairlane and Customline door panels, and seats. So in those years where the same model carried different trim lines I would defer to the vin, and really research it. That interior could be correct materials, but my question is what trim level, and condition would have you wonder that it’s been changed out, and why are they calling it original? Plus it would not have had black carpet. The carpet would have been buckskin colored as well.

Thank you for reaching out and especially for the great post!
We had so many common threads it seemed like we’ve known each other for years. The love of cars, family life and world views are quite similar.
It was great to meet you and glad you got back safely.
Will there be a 3rd date in our future?

Honestly if anyone has an opportunity to meet with the Mercman or anyone else like this do it!

Thank you. Your comments were kind. I guess when I travel I’m on good behavior. Lol. Yeah as my brother and sister are both in the St Louis area, and my aunt and uncle lived on the same street you do, albeit 50 years apart there was a bond, and a comfort there. Would love to see you and meet your wife, and see the progress of those Fairlane’s. Always have to keep a car reason in there. Lol. It was fun, and glad you drove an old car to lunch. I drive an oldie when I can too. Take care and see you in the Lou! Of course you don’t have to just stop at Ted Drewes, Route 66 runs to Albuquerque if you ever get the DelRay figured out the way you want. Thanks it was fun indeed.

I’m glad we met. Next time we should go car hunting and to the bigger cruises. You’re always welcome.
As for the 58 I’d love to hear your thoughts on direction now that you know a little history.
As for a 66 trip Michelle says if I’m taking the wagon she’ll fly out and meet me there. What the heck?

*and the “Donut Hole Gang” were thrilled to learn you came to their event from so far away!
