That picture reminds me of an incident when I was in high school. I came around a bend, only to see the road was covered in water from a clogged storm sewer. I hit it at about 35 mph. The boot on my Hurst shifter swelled like a weather ballon and burst. The water ricocheted up to the ceiling and down into my back seat, The footwells filled with water. I got home and sucked all the water out and got everything dried by leaving the windows down overnite. The next morning I started to go somewhere, only the disco0ver the clutch had swelled and wouldn't release. Had to let it set for another 2 days before it dried out enough to drive.

Dang. The shift boot swelling like a water balloon... That did get me laughing though.

OK, this one's been bugging me, as far as vehicle identification goes. The small car parked next to the (Ford Country Squire?) wagon with the hood up- what is it?

Pretty blurry pic, and I'm wondering if it's a 'still' taken from a movie or TV show. Kind of reminds me of the gas station scene in 'The Jerk', althought I don't think it is.
Anyway, as to the little car, the closest thing I can think of is the European Ford Consul Classic from around 1961, but this car was never imported to the US.

I don't think this is it. Any guesses?

Back then, military members could bring a non-U.S. sale car back to the States. That changed with the 1968 FMVSA. At that point, any car couldn't be brought back, as it had to meet the various safety standards. Insofar as your identification, I concur it's a Consul. Those were a very distinct design.

Doesn't look like a '64 Fairlane to me. Seems to have a body-colored area between the headlights. That's why I thought it might be a Ford Consul.
