I spent some time over the last couple of weeks cleaning and detailing the 85 in order to get it ready for a procession to honour a friend and member of the area auto scene who passed at the beginning of Jan. there was a plethora of rods, customs, muscle, rats, etc... but only one Mercedes. It was quite a line of over 150 vehicles for the 15 km drive from the assembly point through town to the cemetary, here are a few pics from the assembly and cemetary. First is Dave's 50 Merc custom followed by his son's 34 Ford, plus others in the first line including my 85.
My sincerest condolences on your loss. I honestly wish I could've done something for Steven. A two thousand miles gap is no excuse.
Your friend must have made an impact on your community to have such a turn out to support his family. Sorry to hear of your loss, thank you for sharing. Take care.
A tremendous tribute to someone who clearly had an impact on the local community. Thank you for posting the pictures. Losing friends is part of life but it is never easy. It seems to be happening a lot more often of late with the people I have known for decades.
I've been noticing it recently also, besides Dave passing at the beginning of Jan I had another friend pass just before Christmas.
What a glorious send off Kevin. Your friend must have touched a lot of lives. That’s what I would wish for as a final tribute. It also looked like a wonderful day. The closer I get, the more I realize 72 is way too young.
I am sorry to hear about the loss of your friend. It seems that he touched many lives in an amazing way, so seems to me like it was a life well lived. I saw the date on the headstone and thought "1951? Wow, he was young" In my mind the 1950's were only 50 years ago... Not 70+ years ago.
Sorry for the loss of your friend. Judging from the turnout he was a good person and you were fortunate to have him in your life.
Dave was his own person, he was straight forward and rubbed a lot of people the wrong way but you had to respect him for his beliefs'.
They say you have to break a few eggs to make an omelet. I kinda respect people that dance to their own music. I’m not much for rude at the sake of being rude, but with a guy like that, sounds like you knew where you stood. With the outpouring of folks there I would bet he had more friends than detractors. I can imagine if he liked you there isn’t a hill he wouldn’t go tackle with you. There’s probably a person or two that I’m not on the top of their hit list either. Lol. The real gift is to know the difference and not let it effect you. RIP Dave!
Nice send-off. Hope the family appreciated it. Also happened to notice that the decedent, David William Watson, was born 4 days before me. And I also have the middle name of 'William'. May his family have many, many loving memories to cherish. (Also - which of the vehicles belonged to Mr. Dave Watson?)
They were surprised by the size of the turn out, can you imagine the traffic headache with 150 + vehicles cruising through town in the procession. The chopped 50 Merc at the top was Dave's, the California Kid clone behind it is his son's. Instead of a hearse his ashes rode in the front seat of the Merc.
