1969 Plymouth Barracuda Mod Top for sale on BaT Auctions - ending April 14 (Lot #70,580) | Bring a Trailer I had seen the pattern vinyl roof on a Fury VIP (maybe), but hadn't ever seen one with the top and interior, until i got my Hemmings Classic Car most recent issue that had an article on them .
I remember seeing a light yellow one of these with a full Mod Top and interior in an issue of High Performance Mopar in the late 90s...or maybe it was Mopar Muscle...or Mopar Action. I can't remember which magazine now. I still have it, but I'm too lazy to look for it. lol This was a very quirky and unique package for these cars, but still kind of a neat footnote nonetheless. Very rare and VERY late 60s.
Looks like snake grain to me! Looks pretty cool though. Nice colour too. Honestly, I can't remember if I knew about that and have just forgotten? @JackWagon Can you fill us in on that one?...
It snakeskin. The car is my sisters and I think after long deliberation I think it’s staying in the family. It’s a Gold Duster w 235 slant 6, Automatic and something like 70,000 mi.
That's a really nice looking car with an attractive colour combination IMHO. I like how it's remained a 225 slant six car too. I always respect it when owners keep it as it left the factory. Not many of these left, so it's good to see one that has been preserved. Dare I ask: is that the original paint and vinyl? If so, it's in fantastic shape.
everything is original even the dirt under the hood. It’s an Idaho car I think she’s the second owner and has had it quite a while. We thought about selling it and she even had it on eBay for a week or two. No rust, the worst damage is the sun dried headrests and the hole in the carpet under the brake pedal.
That's a really nice looking car and a piece of Mopar history IMO. Please keep it just the way it is for as long as your family has it. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks. I really don’t know a whole lot about it but it won’t be changed as long as she owns it. It's safe until one of her family gets it. It starts runs and drives like new. Thanks for your interest.
I always thought those were always interesting option's, I don't think I would want a car so equipped even today. But they are nice to look at and remember it was a different time.
I once did some engine decarboning on a 318-equipped Gold Duster, although it didn't have any vinyl top. Very sharp, well-taken-care-of, but 'high' mileage.
My sister also had a 60’s Dart II with a small block, 4 spd. And floral vinyl roof and upholstery. I can’t find those pics but it was a metallic gold-ish rose color.
Oh man... we had that linoleum tile in our kitchen when I was growing up! I hated it when I had to remove it as a teenager for ceramic tile. I will say that's a gorgeous car and it's impressive to see how it's survived all these years.
