I've never been to one either and would much rather sit in a theater than crammed in my car.

That's a bummer Norm, I have good memories of that drive in as a kid. Come to think, that was the last drive in I have ever been at and I've been on this rock rock since 82

Drive-ins have never been the best place to catch a good movie, but the movie was only part of the overall experience.
The drive-in experience is a tailgate party, car show, social gathering and a movie, all rolled into one.
    Thats what made it special.

<edit> they also offered much more privacy for snuggling and groping than theater seating. :D

Ah the good old fogged windows in my 77 Monza Spider 2+2 V8, I do not even remember the name of the movie that was playin, nor did I care. Just me and one half of the Baldwin Twins. Oh yeah, it was "Ghost" Coz she said Unchained Melodies was "our song", or some crap like that. Funny thing is, I never heard it playin, hahaha!!!

Well that would seal the deal for me. I go to the movies to watch the movie. My ADD kicks in when someone makes a little too much noise or texting on their cell. I couldn't imagine a bunch of people talking and moving around while I'm trying to watch a movie, it would drive me insane. :jumping:

You can fit at least five teenagers in the trunk of a 59 Impala! :49::D

Drive-ins have been gone from here for some years. When I used to take my own kids I had a 62 Chevy Carryall. 3" top chop, 392 Olds engine and I welded flanges on the back seat so we could turn it around and face it in reverse. Then I parked with the rear facing the screen.
Cooler filled with soda and snacks on a warm summer night...and a load of yard rats in the back. SIIIGH!
Then they started to become the hangout for all the local trash and that pretty much did them in.

It was these multi-plex cnamas that killed off the drive-in theaer. Between the IMAX sound theaters and todays plastic Hondas thats actually why they are dying. Tough to get busy in that Honda Accord with the shifter in between you and your lady. The land yahots worked perfectly , Huge wide bench seat, in the wagons you had endless room. Not with the deathtraps they build today.

Yeah if you get her talked into getting on that hump on top of the brake handle and shifter,it won't last long before you never see her again.

But 27 you are right with bench seats  it would take a 1/2 hour to get the front windshield defogged.:biglaugh:

I don't think I've been to a drive in for 40 years. As a kid though we went probably every month or so in the summer. The skeeters in Ma. were pretty bad if I remember right. They'd send the fogger through the drive in just before the movie started. A little DDT never killed us.:rofl2:

The hot dogs always tasted funny though.....:yup:
