Actually I was in Kirksville, in college. We had snow, but nothing like the storm they got in St Louis. I did however live through 1967, and ‘79 in Chicago. So I’m quite familiar with horrible snow storms. That’s why I don’t live there anymore. Lol

I wasn’t here in 67 but moved here mid 79. I had forgotten about that one. Ice, Ice and then more Ice! On top of the snow. Thanks for the memories.

My Dad was born in Kirksville. I drove to college in the midst of the 67 storm in my 57 Ford. I was heading to my aunt and uncle's place and had only been there once and only knew one way to get there. I was supposed to get off of Rt. 45 at Rt. 83, but it was snowed in. I deduce that the next major intersection going west would get me to Rt. 83, so I took it. It took me into a forest preserve and the road disappeared in the snow. I stayed between the tree lines on either side, knowing if I stopped, I was screwed. I came out on Archer Ave just as a V plow was passing and it dumped a load of snow on my windshield. No way vacuum wipers were going to clear it, so I opened the door and hung out to clear the snow while keeping a foot on the gas so I didn't have to stop. I eventually made it over to Rt. 53 and got within one mile of the house. Could go no further and had to abandon the car and walk the rest of the way. Recovered the car, undamaged, the following day.

I had my business by the 79 storm and had a 78 Ford plow truck and a 79 tow truck. I made a small fortune that year.

The best of times, the worst of times…worrying about the car overnight was probably not easy either.
Just last summer we camped at Thousand Hills up there. We had a good time, enjoyed the area, the people and the food even tho it rained all weekend.

I vividly remember that snow storm the 26th of January was my brothers 10th Birthday. He wanted to go to Willoway Manor for his special day. I think my dad wound up picking up Cock Robin on the way home from work. The storm was pending, which was weird it seems like it had been in the low 60’s early in the week. Naperville was pretty sleepy until Amoco moved in in ‘69.

My business was the Shell Station at the corner of Rt. 53 and Maple Ave. I was there from 1971 to 2000. I also had the Shell on the corner of Ogden and Yackley when it was just a "gas only." You probably bought gas from me at some time.

Well if you’re asking about Elizabeth Drive in Ferguson. Been there. That looks like a house on that street. Is it yours? Built in ‘51-‘52?

Nice. My aunt and uncle moved there in ‘55, but their house was built in ‘51 I think. I like that street.

This has the traditional St. Louis mother in law quarters downstairs. Full kitchen, laundry and walk out to the lower level of the yard. 3 fireplaces, 3 acres and around 5000 sq. ft. living space.
