Help with adjustable roof rack colors

I need help on what the adjustable roof rack looked like originally. I know the feet and the cross bridges were all chrome originally. It appears that the long side supports that run parallel to the roof may have been painted argent, but they are so weathered I cannot tell if they were just bare metal, painted, or chrome too. Any help would be appreciated.

That's a tough one, Doc. Fairmonts came with either a painted (black) or wood inlay or chrome (actually stainless steel) Yours might have brushed stainless?

Don't know where you'd get that info.

    Tail light repair and polishing

I have 3 tail lights that I made 2 good ones out of. I will likely have to replace both lenses as soon as I find some nice ones since there are some cracks at the top.

Here are some before and after pictures. (both looked as bad as the before pic)

I wet sanded by hand starting with 400 grit, then 600...800...1000...1500...2000 then Meguiar's Plastix

The look like watermelon Jolly Ranchers!! I was very happy with how they turned out.

Like night and day. I'm sure they look even better in person.

Good job Doc. I did the same thing to my Torino lenses. Broke them all apart, cleaned them, and luckily they were not broken and there was only a small area in a corner of the lenses that needed some extra elbow grease. They shined up very well with the Mequire's lense cleaner/polisher.

The actual pot metal chrome portion was shined up with fine steel wool and the black accent was re-painted.

Actually, the large outer metal bezel is new NOS, mine were cracked and beyond repair. The pot metal trim that is on the tail light lens is pitted but I polished the heck out of it with Flitz metal polish. It is now at least presentable.

AT Body shop for final assembly

Moved the wagon back to the body shop for final body panel assembly.

Brand new windshield installed too! :D

Sorry for the dark pictures, I was down there on a Saturday and no lights were on.

The excitement must be climbing at your end...:whew:

Just no words to express the itch to take her out for a proud cruise.

I keep thinking of songs like 'The Thrill AIN'T Gone' or "Paint Your Wagon" when people get that close to the first All-Dressed Run.:thumbs2:

Thanks so much guys....Its definately getting closer. I still have a ton to do inside, but I will atleast be able to take it on the street soon.

I have to thank SUPERSNAKE , aka Old Tired Rebel for finding it for me way back in 2007. It was in Charlotte NC and my brothers drove it all the way to PA as the motor was very tired.
I found some old pictures of the night they pulled in to PA and the first day I drove it. Ill post them up for old times!!

When my prior post said "tired", which I changed, ..I meant that the motor was tired, the body was fine for resto.

    Thanks again.
