:D Since my tune up and carb adjustment last month to pass the emissions inspection the ole '82 Cougar wagon is getting 19 mpg in town. Not so bad for the 3.3 six with 118,000 miles in a 3200 lb. car, especially with 70's engineered emission controls. (all vacuum...no electronic).

I know we shouldn't worry about gas milage on our buggies but I can imagine 25 or so on other than California formulated gas on the highway.

Does anyone else check mileage? Just curious.

    Remember this from you:

"Mech...its got the 1600 crossflow...i threw a gt intake and carb in her....so now it goes 30% faster and uses 90% more gas:eek: "

So, even with your wagon of the week obsession you do consider gas mileage. LoL.

So, how's that LTD? Is it a driver or a fixer upper? I'd like to have a huge wagon but don't have the garage space and since I prefer to drive them almost on a daily basis I'd never be happy with a show car as I'd be afraid to get a ding. Also a very old wagon with an original engine would suffer on todays low octane fuel. So for me mileage and fuel requirements is a consideration. I would never be happy with a trailer queen or a show car.

So, if you ever get in the market for a Cougar wagon mine gets decent mileage.

    hehehe....ya ok...ya caught me in a weak moment...LOL
that thing was the first econo bucket i've owned in 20 years:rofl: it was kinda cool.

...oh...and just to be clear the LTD isnt a wagon...its just a 2dr LTD Brougham...but its cherry and the mileage is just 'Barely'.. any worse than the Fartina;)

I check it. Just to make sure I don't have a leak somewhere... I'm right around 14mpg. Pontiac 326/4bbl/th350. If I adjusted my driving habits, I'm betting I could get to 16 or 17...

On my 74 Chev Caprice Estate, I would not want to know because I already know it is beyond sad. On my 57 Pontiac with factory six banger (Canadian model), I should be getting about 18-20 mpg on the highway. In town maybe 14-15 mpg. Not great but far better than my 74 Chev wagon. I love driving both my oldies so I do not worry too much about the gas mileage. Cheers.

All that matter is the Smiles Per Gallon..... unless the distance to the nearest gas station is questionable. :tiphat:

Gas mileage is one of the reasons I'm staying with a 2 barrel on our 67 Fury wagon. My wife is not into the hot rods or going fast. We just want a nice smooth ride.

On my 65 Dodge Coronet slant 6 1 barrel actually gets pretty good gas mileage when putting around town. Probably over 20 mpg. It'e when pushing it on the highway that the mileage suffers. Weird.

Now my 69 Plymouth Sport Satellite convertible is a 318 2 barrel auto. One road trip from Rhode Island to north west Vermont, mostly highway, we calculated almost 20 mpg.

My 69 Dodge Dart GT with a 440 big block at 11.5 compression ratio is another matter all together. 5-8 mpg maybe?
